About Store No8:

We are the incubation arm of Walmart. Store N o 8 was formed in 2017 as part of Walmart's larger innovation mission to shape the future of commerce. We pursue big ideas and take risks by stepping outside of Walmart's core business to focus on leapfrog capabilities across conversational commerce, mixed reality, in-store digitization, and more. About the Role:

As Head of Engineering you will focus on the following areas:
  • People:
    • Weekly 1:1's with your team and manager.
    • Retain great engineers who are excited about the future.
    • Share kind and direct feedback in regular performance evaluations and competency reviews.
    • Assist each team member to build an exciting and meaningful career path.
    • Mentor and coach team members to prepare for promotions and other career opportunities.
  • Process:
    • Team cadence and meeting schedule following agile principles.
    • Team retrospective and process improvement.
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Conduct effective meetings that end on time and minimize interruptions.
    • Finding and updating best practices as team evolves and improves over time.

  • Engineering Excellence:
    • Establish and maintain sustainable patterns of work for each team member.
    • Encourage people to do their best work every day.
    • Write clear and concise task requirements and acceptance criteria.
    • Help team members keep time to focus on getting things done well before starting something new.

  • Roadmap Planning:
    • Communicate effectively with product managers, program managers, and engineering leaders.
    • Balance product health and engineering tasks with new features and business goals.
    • Evaluate historical team velocity and throughput to accurate estimate delivery dates.
    • Evaluate product architecture and prepare for future integration into Walmart architecture.

What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in building and shipping digital products in a technical lead/management role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the technical problem space.
  • Confident in taking ownership of projects from start to finish and enjoy the process of turning nebulous ideas into reality.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A self-starter who drives projects and builds strong relationships with stakeholders and teams to tackle large cross-functional efforts.
  • Thrive with minimal guidance and process.
  • Worked in both small teams/incubators and large corporations.

The annual salary range for this position is $192,000.00-$288,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:

  • Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)

  • Stock equity incentives

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 8 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

3 years' supervisory experience.
