As a Curator you will research exhibit topics and work with an exhibit team to craft and implement exhibitions while leading artifact procurement and installing exhibits. Your registration responsibilities will include implementing policies and procedures for loan contracts, facility reports, shipping, and handling insurance for and documentation of artifacts. In addition, you will lead all aspects of database management of owned and borrowed objects. Finally, Collections Manager duties will include the preservation and inspection of artifacts and objects of historical significance in storage and on loan to and owned by the Walt Disney Company for display at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
You will report to the Functional Manager of Collections Management.

Responsibilities/What You Will Do:
Exhibit Team Duties:
- Work with a team to develop an exhibit concept by providing input to Walt Disney Imagineering design disciplines, such as show designers, show lighting, show producers, graphics, interior designers, character finishing, props, and architectural and facilities engineering for special requirements of displayed objects
- Research, identify, and recommend objects to support specific temporary exhibition requirements
- Coordinate the planning, installation, and maintenance of assigned galleries and exhibit locations on Disney property
- Work with the project team on the exhibit planning, design, and fabrication, including financial management, strategic implementation of development plans, administration and management of gallery facilities including environmental, security, and maintenance
- Anticipate major project landmarks and communicate issues to management and project teams
- Work with project management to coordinate with outside vendors including packers, shippers, decorators, and conservators to accommodate artifacts' special needs
- Make independent decisions to resolve collections issues at the base level while prioritizing results to meet project needs
- Build lender relationships, both internal and external
- Work with Corporate Legal and Risk Management to produce loan agreements and insurance requirements
Collections Care Duties:
- Lead all aspects of the acquisition, conservation, registration, storage, care and preservation, management of collection assets, and proper object handling including mentoring interns and associate curators on proper procedures
- Register and assign accession and catalog objects according to the established registration system while maintaining records of storage, exhibit, object movement, and loan location of all objects
- Design and prepare exhibit mounts for delicate objects on display and in storage
- Handle collections care, periodic review of exhibit locations, routine maintenance, and disaster planning for assigned exhibit locations
- Establish partnerships with park partners to maintain gallery spaces and level of care for borrowed assets
- Partner with Walt Disney World teams including Security, Alarm Systems, Pest Management, Operations, Decorating, Custodial, and Engineering Services to achieve a safe and appropriate environment for the display and storage of objects
- Monitor environmental controls, rotate sensitive objects off exhibit, maintain an integrated pest management system, coordinate a housekeeping routine, and ensure the security of all items within the building
- Remain on-call 24/7 for any emergency that may arise
- Perform spot inventories of the collections annually and facilitate a full inventory of the complete collections every 5 years
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent seizing, holding, and grasping with hands
- Pushing/pulling, carrying, and lifting items up to 25 lbs
- Repeated stooping, squatting, bending, or kneeling
- Repeated reaching overhead and at or below shoulder level
- Ascending and descending a traditional or step stool/stepladder
- Activities may be required for extended periods of time, up to 4 hours
- Periodically working on the floor to vacuum the bottom of cases, set/reset alarms on bottom of cases, etc.
- Project work may change the frequency and duration of these requirements
Basic Qualifications/You Have:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of Collections Management
- Knowledge of Ke EMu, Electronic Museum Database, or similar collection management software for cataloging and record keeping
- Knowledge of preventative conservation methods and procedures and experience with object handling
- Knowledge about our organization, arrangement, and nomenclature of objects and artifacts
- Desire to pursue ongoing education in Collections care and art preservation practices and methodology
- Experience leading project teams including consultants, staff extensions, vendors, etc.
- Skills to resolve disputes and arrange terms and agreements
- Knowledge of cataloging, contracting, displaying, storing, handling, and shipping of art and objects on loan for special exhibits
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in the field of Collections Management
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies or equivalent experience
- Master's degree preferred
