Responsible for assisting in the assembly and disassembly of cranes and setting up rigging for wind projects. In addition, Rigger-Helpers may be assigned other tasks as needed during construction of wind projects including any foundation, offload, assembly, and quality control of Wind Turbines along with routine site maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Complete all required Safety documentation
- Climb on crane boom daily and perform activities required to assemble/disassemble cranes
- Use taglines to control suspended loads during assembly/disassembly of cranes and wind turbine components
- Align, level and anchor machinery
- Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving
- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure safety of workers and materials
- Act as a spotter to ensure safety of crew and protection of equipment
- Position, join, align, and connect crane boom sections, tracks, and other components as needed
- Mop, brush or spread bituminous compounds or paint over surfaces for protection
- Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use
- Manipulate rigging lines, hoist, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability
- Perform tasks involving use of hands and tools such as torquing/tensioning bolts and studs, assembling metal parts, sawing lumber, cleanup, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One to three months related experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
- Be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
- Basic knowledge of rigging techniques
Working Environment:
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
