Position Summary:
A tube cutter / bender is responsible for cutting and bending various types of tubes and pipes to specific lengths and dimensions. Strong attention to detail, technical skills, and the ability to troubleshoot are crucial in this role.
Essential Functions:
- Examine tubes or pipes to ensure they meet quality and safety standards before cutting.
- Will setup and confirm machine settings as dictated by the materials being processed and route.
- Responsible for taking care of routine machine maintenance.
- Accurately measure and mark tubes or pipes according to project specifications.
- Set up and operate tube cutting machinery, which may include manual or automated tools such as saws, cutters, or other specialized equipment.
- Perform precise cuts on tubes or pipes based on the required measurements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements. Ability to read a tape measure and ensure accurate measurements prior to cutting.
- Inspect cut tubes for quality, smoothness, and accuracy. Remove any burrs or imperfections as needed.
- Conduct routine maintenance on cutting tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Work closely with other team members, such as welders, fabricators, or assemblers, to ensure seamless integration of cut tubes into larger projects.
- Maintains work area consistent with 5S program and training.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the assigned machine.
Required Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a tube cutter / bender
- Ability to use metric systems and understand simple conversions.
- Manual dexterity required for use of tools to include tape measure, safety blade, pliers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
- Forklift operator certification required; this will be provided onsite by the company.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Precision and attention to detail are crucial to ensure accurate and high-quality cuts.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols and the ability to work safely with cutting tools and machinery.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy tubes or pipes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and address issues that may arise during the cutting process.
- Collaboration with other team members and effective communication skills.
Availability Requirements:
This is on 1st shift – Monday to Friday – 6:00am – 2:30pm with occasional overtime as needed. Consistent, regular and punctual attendance during scheduled work hours is essential for the successful execution of duties.
Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site.
Approximately 40 hours / week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the early mornings, evenings and/or during weekends. Overtime may be scheduled and required to meet departmental needs.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence at the highest levels in the English language. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other team members. Advanced conflict resolution skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Mathematical Skills:
Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under education requirements. Higher skills may be required depending on actual job duties. Familiarity with various units of measurement (e.g., inches, centimeters, millimeters, ounces, grams) and the ability to convert between them and ability to accurately read a tape measure.
Physical and Visual Activities:
Standing, Walking, Sitting, Lifting, Carrying, Balancing, Stooping, Reaching, Handling, Feeling, Acuity-Far, Acuity-Near, Depth Perception, and Field of Vision.
Physical Demands:
May require a combination of sitting, standing, and walking. May require lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:
Must be able to work in a shop environment, as well as a usual office environment. May be exposed to loud operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals, and vapors.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:
Personal computer, fax machine, copy machine, other office equipment, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint. May minimally operate test equipment and/or basic hand tools.
