Hours Rotate Mon- Sat (40hrs/10 hr. shift)

The person in this position is responsible for providing excellent customer service at the Davis Landfill and Material Recovery Facility handling payments for the receipt of waste and the sale of products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operation of computerized scales to weigh and assess disposal fees for all customers.
  • Process transactions accurately and quickly to minimize customer's wait and maintain an accurate record of all sales of service and product.
  • Perform verbal and visual verification to determine presence of and help screen/prevent hazardous or unauthorized waste from entering the facility.
  • Provide instruction to the public for proper disposal of various types of waste materials. Accept material in accordance with the District policies, Davis County Health Department, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Accurately and timely completes and forwards scale house portion of CD and special handling paperwork to the Foreman.
  • Provide professional customer service including interaction with each customer in a pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Monitors unattended scale activities at the MRF, such as assisting driver, adding and removing RFID tags in the scale system.
  • Answer all in-coming phone calls and direct all calls to correct employee or department, with courtesy and professional customer service.
  • Work as cashier in thrift store.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES;

  • Properly use two-way radio to notify appropriate personnel for assistance in preventing unauthorized vehicles from entering the Davis Landfill and making corrections to tickets entered in system.
  • Perform regular housekeeping duties and computer, printers, and other equipment at both sites.
  • Operate computer and track cash drawer accurately, accounting for large sums of cash collected from all locations. Prepare daily cash checkout for further processing by Foreman. Place cash and required deposit information into safes daily.
  • Assist when needed in picking up daily cash at Thrift Store and Scale House. Assist District Treasurer and accounting department in preparation of the deposit reports and bank deposits, assuring cash deposits are made timely at the bank each day.
  • Replacing fallen gates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Ability to operate computer, printers, and other standard office machines.
  • Ability to answer telephones and greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work under highly stressful conditions and situations with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of current disposal fees and material types.
  • Ability to use two-way radio.
  • Knowledge of Landfill and Plant regulations and procedures for acceptance of solid waste.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and other computerized software programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Skills in customer service and ability to handle difficult customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 18 years.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year work experience in a retail field closely related to these duties.
  • Skills in customer service and ability to handle difficult customers.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license issued by the state.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.22 - $21.09 per hour
