Job Description: The Assistant/Associate Director of Gift Planning is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of a portfolio of prospects. Reporting to the Director of Gift Planning, the Assistant/Associate Director collaborates on the creative stewardship of planned gift donors. Has primary responsibility for the oversight of multi-channel marketing and innovative messaging development. Assists with the coordination, processing, administration and reporting to donors of planned gift commitments; and working with Advancement Operations, oversees gift recordkeeping and program reporting. Liaises with Advancement Operations, Business Office, Treasurer’s Office and General Counsel on planned gift commitments and mature gifts, and with the charitable portfolio investment manager/custodian. Essential Functions: Manages and grows an assigned portfolio of gift planning prospects. Travels to visit with donors and prospects to cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals Coordinates and executes multi-channel marketing and messaging to planned gift prospects, donors, and professional advisors. As a planned giving resource, develops donor trust and maintains confidentiality. Maintains archival records of planned gifts in The Raiser’s Edge, PaperSave or other relationship management system in electronic format. Coordinates periodic reports, income distributions and communications with donors. Assists the Director of Gift Planning in managing a dynamic list of planned gift prospects including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gift donors. Executes enhanced stewardship activities on and off campus for the Doremus Society, W&L’s planned giving recognition, including individual donor meetings for solicitation and stewardship, periodic communications, virtual & in-person seminars, and receptions. Coordinates the preparation and filing of required state charitable gift annuity state filings. Other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Frequent travel will be required. Compensation: Title and pay commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required with experience working in relevant industries such as development, communications, business development, planned giving or retirement/estate planning. Experience working in a higher education or a non-profit setting is preferred. Occupants of this position should have and be able to demonstrate: strong organizational skills and attention to detail; a customer service orientation; ability to deal effectively and discreetly with donors, colleagues and allied professionals; and excellent oral and written communication skills. The university requires employees to become fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and new employees must provide proof of at least their first shot prior to the first day of employment.
