POSITION: Assistant Director of Bands for 2024 – 2025 School Year
JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Director of Bands in administering the instrumental music program, including ISSMA Open Class C Marching Band, IPA Indoor Percussion, & WGI Indoor Winds for the district. Provides guidance and encouragement to help students with their involvement in the instrumental music program. Promotes close working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Keeps the Director of Bands and Principal(s) informed of emerging issues. Plans activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Music Education/Instrumental Certification
Knowledge of all aspects of teaching instrumental music to students
Indiana Teaching Credentials for Music Education
EXPECTATIONS:
1. Assist with direction of the 5th - 12th grade instrumental music program , including marching band, concert bands, indoor percussion, indoor winds, solo and ensembles, festival contest, 5th grade music exploration lab, etc.
2. Assist in establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band
3. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, competitions and ISSMA activities
4. Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rules, ISSMA rules, and board policy in the band area
5. Support band booster club activities
6. Recommend policies to improve the band program
7. Assist Director of Bands to ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
8. Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
9. Assist with maintenance of current inventory of all fixed assets within the department
10. Assist in the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment
11. Create and environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students

12. Accompany and supervise students on in and out-of-town trips
13. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
14. Must be able to perform the essential functions of maneuvering and interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)
15. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
16. Ensure that all instrumental music activities conform to ISSMA guidelines
17. Ensure ALL students are learning - provide enriched experiences and/or additional support to meet the needs of diverse learners.
18. Other duties as assigned
