THE POSITION

The Department of Land Use and Transportation is hiring a limited duration Senior Planner to work in our Community Planning section on. This position is expected to last through Dec. 31, 2026.

The Position
This Senior Planner will be primarily responsible for overall project management of a special project to update the County's coordination agreements with the cities and special service districts in Washington County as well as developing proposed text and mapping related changes to our comprehensive plan documents with support from other staff. They will manage a consultant contract of up to $600K, review and accept consultant products, meet regularly with project partners from cities and special service districts, prepare project memos, develop plan and code update ordinances, and brief County leadership. This Senior Planner will receive direction from the Principal Planner for Community Planning and Land Use and Transportation department leadership.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. It may also work 32-40 hours per week upon request.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills, a proven ability to multitask and manage a heavy workload while working independently, a proven ability to manage planning studies/projects including developing scope, schedule, budgets, and work products, a proven ability to oversee consultant work products, create a positive and supportive work environment, and work well with the public and partners..

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field AND five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning, or regional, transportation planning, city or community planning, or related areas. OR
  • A Master's Degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field AND three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning or regional, transportation planning, city or community planning, or related areas.
