Pay Range:
Probation and Parole Officer I $33.37 - $42.58
Probation and Parole Officer II $38.63 - $49.32 (Must be DPSST Certified for Probation and Parole at time of hire)

Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring a highly collaborative and supportive individual to join our team as a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO). An essential function of this role will be supporting a caseload of people from diverse backgrounds. A successful candidate must possess lived and/or professional experiences working with diverse individuals.
 
About the Department
Washington County Community Corrections serves an important role in keeping our community safe. This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs) by holding them accountable to the conditions of their supervision while supporting their efforts to live successfully in the community. Community Corrections supervises approximately 2,800 individuals using a range of evidence-based strategies while working in partnership with the Courts, law enforcement, and the Oregon State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision.

Duties of this position include:
  1. Maintains regular contact with JIIs and monitors their activities; provides continuous assessment and counseling according to the JIIs’ needs and progress; monitors progress in meeting probation/parole conditions such as fines, restitution, enrollment in drug or alcohol treatment programs; and contacts service agencies, employers, and JIIs’ families.
  2. Interviews adult JIIs on probation or parole to assess client needs; assesses social, emotional, and economic status and refers JIIs to community agencies if needed; counsels JIIs on probation/parole procedures and personal problems; counsels JIIs in establishing personal goals and plans; and confers with JIIs’ families.
  3. Provides probation/parole services and group counseling to released residents of the residential center; and develops individual treatment and financial plans for residents in coordination with resident supervisors.
  4. Provides counseling service to incarcerated JIIs; interviews incarcerated JIIs, assesses needs, and works with incarcerated JIIs to determine treatment goals; and refers incarcerated JIIs to County and community resources as needed.
  5. Writes reports related to compliance and confers with courts on JIIs; reports violations and changes in status; and writes early termination and bench probation requests to courts.

  • Bachelor’s degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.  OR
  • Associate’s degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of an Associate's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience. OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
           *DPSST Certified within 18 months of hire

Probation and Parole Officer II
  • Bachelor’s degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience. OR
  • Associate’s degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field. Possession of an Associate's degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience. OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.
           *DPSST Certified at time of hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Spanish language including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Spanish, both orally and in writing.
Position Specific Requirements 
Final candidates will be required to undergo and meet the following requirements:
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Must be a US citizen, or become a US citizen within 18 months of hire.
  • Must pass a post-offer physical capacity test, psychological evaluation, and the DPSST pre-employment medical exam prior to appointment.
