ABOUT US
Washington Health Care Association (WHCA) is a nonprofit organization based in Tumwater, with a current budget of just over $5 million. We are seeking an Accountant with experience in nonprofit and political action committee accounting. WHCA was recently awarded the sponsorship of an apprenticeship program which requires comprehensive accounting support for our newly formed subsidiary. In general, WHCA has a membership of 545 skilled nursing and assisted living providers that employ over 20,000 workers and serve thousands of aging and disabled Washington citizens. WHCA also has 194 affiliate business members. Our association makes a difference every day by offering relevant and robust educational programming, regulatory consultation and support, legislative and regulatory advocacy, and by operating as a clearinghouse for national, state, and local information to support our providers and workforce in the delivery of quality care and services.
SCOPE OF POSITION
Position is Remote but employee must live in Washington State
We are seeking a highly qualified Accountant to support our team beginning with comprehensive accounting support for our new subsidiary, WHCA Apprentice, LLC. This subsidiary needs a person who can help set-up and manage accounting structures necessary for a program that is partially funded through state and federal grant funds. The Accountant will work with the Program Manager and the CEO to develop and implement a program budget, manage the bookkeeping, produce all required financial reports, and develop and oversee standard operating procedures for the financial aspects of this program. WHCA is transitioning away from contracted accounting services which opens the door for this position to take on some responsibility for other WHCA programs and WHCA’s political action committee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two-year degree in accounting plus at least three years accounting work experience. Significant post-secondary education or certifications (CB or CBP) may be substituted for a two-year degree with at least six years accounting and/or bookkeeping work experience.
- Five years of work experience in a business office setting
- Fluent in QuickBooks (QB) and EXCEL
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Solid understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and accounting best practices
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to set and maintain an adequate cadence and schedule to ensure timeliness on payments, invoicing, deposits, and posting payments
- Attention to detail, self-driven, and works well independently
- Experience in local tax preparation
- Highly desired, but not required: Experience with Non-Profit Industry and Political Action Committees
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage and oversee standard operating accounting procedures for the LPN Apprenticeship Program
- Implement interagency agreements and track funds between agencies
- Manage Chart of Accounts and General Ledger
- Track revenue streams and develop financial reports required for grant funds
- Process accounts payable through Bill.com
- Process accounts receivable and post payments
- Bank Reconciliation
- Credit Card Processing/reconciliation
- Add new customers and maintain accurate Customer/Vendor information in QB
- Prepare and submit monthly B&O taxes
- Prepare and submit quarterly City of Tumwater taxes
- Prepare 990 workbook for WHCA’s contracted CPA
- Work with offsite Controller
- Support the WHCA team members and the CEO with financial reports if needed
OTHER FUNCTIONS- Depending on Availability and Project Assignments
- Political Action Committee accounting which includes processing checks, tracking and reporting donations, and reconciliation on fundraising financials and PAC Donations
- Preparation and submission of required PAC reports to the Public Disclosure Commission.
- Reconcile WHCA Seminar and/or Event revenue and expenditures
- General accounting/bookkeeping for WHCA and/or the Long Term Care Foundation
- Support the contracted administrator of the Group Retro program in the management of trust funds and accounting services related to rebate checks, safety rebates, and financial reports.
- Membership dues accounting which would include communication with association members concerning invoicing, payment, membership dues, and collection of past due accounts
- Support the CEO in annual budget development
- Accounting support developing WHCA board financial reports
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38.00 - $44.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
