JOB DESCRIPTION
Risk Services Consultant

Purpose Statement

The job of Risk Services Consultant is done for the purpose/s of supporting member school districts through risk mitigation efforts, safety and risk control programs, and risk management services and recommendations.

This job reports to Manager of Risk Services.

Essential Functions

  • Plan, schedule, and conduct on-site and virtual risk assessments/facility inspections relating to property and liability loss exposures and make specific recommendations to members to control or reduce loss exposures.
  • Develop, review, and/or revise risk services content for program-related communications, risk control manuals, articles, boradcasts, and other resources for member use.
  • Research and develop risk management recommendations, both written and oral. Communication needs to be timely, professional, and appropriate for the audience.
  • Prepare reports, documenting activities in RMIS systems, and monitor members’ compliance with recommendations.
  • Leverage Enterprise Risk Management principles with members for strategic planning and risk mitigation.
  • Respond to requests for risk management consultations and training. Develops and delivers training to member districts to reduce risk exposure and enhance member understanding of property/liability risks and processes.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files, and records.
  • Participates in state, federal, and local level meetings, joint committees, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather information, provide guidance and advice, and assist in the development of rules, laws, and regulations.
  • Work closely with various WSRMP departments/staff to identify risks of individual members and overall loss trends and exposures of the program.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret safety documents, loss runs, accident reports, and other information.
  • Attend various state and national conferences, workshops, and training for program representation, member relationship management, and professional development.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments by reading various professional literature and attending related training and seminars.
  • Research federal and state laws, building codes, health codes, and other regulations to provide members with regulations and established standards.
  • Maintains proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other position-specific software.
  • Ability to adapt to changing goals and new technology.

  • May utilize a fleet vehicle or personal vehicle for the purpose of performing the essential functions of the position.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Seeks new skills and opportunities for professional development.
  • Earn Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certificate within nine months of hire and maintain certification.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to create and present PowerPoint presentations.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze data in Excel or similar spreadsheet or database software.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration and storage tools such as OneDrive, SharePoint and Confluence.
  • Experience with videoconferencing software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Basic understanding of computer security and ability to follow company security protocols.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, compose and edit written materials, write industry-specific content (i.e. articles, recommendations, etc.) and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other departments is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment

Residency: Washington state

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in Risk Management or Insurance-related field

Equivalency: Bachelor's degree in Risk Management may substitute for experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Equivalency: Substantial risk management experience plus an AA degree or certification in safety or risk management may substitute for a BA degree
