SUMMARY
This is a non-exempt position responsible for conducting standardized laboratory tests, field investigations,
and report developments under the direction of senior level colleagues following prescribed work methods.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties are assigned to provide experience and familiarization with the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for water quality and groundwater sampling and
testing methods and practices of the company.
- Performs data entry on field and test results for inclusion into reports.
- Collects data relevant to project assignments including maps, photographs, and samples.
- Purchases, stores, and packs tools and supplies for fieldwork use.
- Disposes, or prepares for disposal, of chemicals, samples, and other hazardous materials according to safety
regulations and under the direction of a scientist.
- Performs routine analysis to verify accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of data.
- May troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and make simple repairs.
- Identifies selected species, and mounts and labels species on slides as needed.
- Collects, identifies, and prepares plants for study by biologists. May performs macro-invertebrate
identifications.
- Performs gopher tortoise burrow surveys and performs wetland delineations.
- Under the supervision of a scientist, performs permitted trapping and banding of wildlife, and scoping of
burrows, assists in the collection of environmental field data such as water samples, water depth, and
benthic samples.
- Performs instrument calibrations as part of ongoing maintenance programs and in preparation for field
sampling trips.
- Ability to work in natural environments where snakes, alligators, mosquitos, ticks, chiggers, and other
organisms that may be encountered.
- Develops spreadsheets for simple data analysis to meet the needs of clients.
- Leads/assists Project Managers in the development of practicable sampling plans and routes; provides
logistical support.
- Exercises dependability and demonstrates reliable attendance. Interacts professionally as a team player in an
office environment.
- Possesses flexibility and versatility in order to contribute to evolving work situations. Manages confidential
proprietary information.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the business.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required: High School Diploma/GED and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and basic
proficiency in Microsoft software; i.e., Word, Excel as well as email. Strongly Preferred: Knowledge of plant/
animal organisms including, but not limited to, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and
interactions with each other and the environment, microscopes, respirators, and boating experience.
