Overview:
Clinical Systems Development is a new team being created to develop Waters Clinical and IVD Systems, Hardware and Software. This is a great opportunity to get involved at the outset of a new organisation, with a mission to better meet the unique challenges of our Clinical customers and accelerate the growth of this segment of Waters business.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Systems for the Clinical BU.

Contribute to the innovation and creation of new separations and/or mass measurement concepts for the creation of integrated LC/MS clinical systems and analysers which are ground-breaking, transformative and disruptive rather than incremental.

Undertake research & development activities for Clinical LC/MS Systems and technologies and advise on design of experiments.

Contribute to sustaining activities for Clinical LC/MS Systems.

Collaborate with the SMEs of the Clinical BU, inclusive of hardware, software and broader customer workflow elements.

Engage in collaborations with the wider Waters R&D organisation and with customers on Separations/Mass Spectrometry Research and Development projects.

Interact with 3rd parties to develop system components and solutions for integrations into Waters Clinical products.

Present research findings externally at international conferences and internally to senior management.

Act as SME for senior management of the Clinical BU on separations-based and/or mass spectrometry-based technology and products.

Work with both Waters and Clinical BU (Engineering and Service organisations) to implement improvements to Clinical Systems products to improve their quality, robustness, reliability and up-time.

Provide integration skills to drive the development and subsequent transfer of new technologies (including their requirements and specifications) into commercial instrumentation.

Produce Product Specification and Engineering Requirements documentation and provide design direction to the engineering development teams as required.

Be aware of developments in the technical community and competitor’s products to identify potential development opportunities or strategic technical threats.
Qualifications:
Education:
-
A BSc or equivalent in a Scientific or Engineering discipline.
-
A second or higher-level degree or equivalent in a Scientific or Engineering discipline would be desirable
Experience:
-
Proven practical experience of Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, LC/MS Informatics or a related discipline.

Wide-ranging experience in the development of LC and/or LC/MS instrumentation, or similar scientific or analytical instrumentation used in a clinical environment.

A technical understanding of the requirements, procedures and physical resources needed to verify sub-systems in system environments and products.

A detailed technical understanding of the assemblies and sub-assemblies required to build an LC/MS product.
Competencies:

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, for example to ensure succinct report generation, effective communication with staff, peer groups, etc. across organisation.

Must be able to work independently and communicate with all levels of the organisation.

Computer literate - knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel an advantage - in order to produce reports, analyse data etc. effectively.

Ability to work with process.

Diagnostic abilities to determine root causes and provide fault data

Ability to work in ad hoc project teams.
