ABOUT US:
Watertown Boys & Girls Club is a youth development organization that serves children aged seven to eighteen. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
Our Club offers a wide range of activities and programs that fit our member’s individual needs with trained, compassionate adult staff who help guide and coach our members in academic success, healthy living, character development and peer relationships. The Club is open after school during the academic year, and all day long in the summer. Hundreds of kids fill our Club and are looking for a safe place to engage with peers, receive mentoring and support, and have FUN.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Athletic Director develops and successfully implements the non-aquatics athletic programs. The Athletic Director plans, directs, and supervises athletic programs and activities. The Athletic Director is responsible for recruitment and training of all volunteers and athletic support staff, and to provide leadership and supervision of the gymnasium.
REPORTS TO: Program Director
SUPERVISES: Program Assistant, Volunteers
POSITION STATUS: Full-Time Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a background in Physical Education or related field.
- Three years of experience leading and supervising groups of children and staff.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Completed physical exam that indicates the capacity to implement all aspects of the program.
- Has a valid drivers license in the state of MA
KEY ROLES (Essential Responsibilities)

*General Duties*
- Develops and implements daily athletic/recreational programming and instruction to kids ages 7-18.
- Officiates games, organizes tournaments, drives to “away” games and tournaments.
- Designs and implement new and innovative programming.that meet the diverse needs of children
- Organizes and implements established and new intramural programs and organize teams for inter-club competition.
- Develops a balanced program for small and large group activities and establish the importance of fun, learning and sportsmanship over winning.
- Provides diverse, gender balanced programming.
- Offers Health Education programs annually.
- Maintains the Athletic Budget.
- Maintains inventory and maintenance lists for facilities, supplies, and equipment.
- Abides by and enforces policies and procedures.
- Provides counseling and guidance to members when appropriate.
- Provides experiences that address the social and emotional needs of children
Human Resources
- Supervises Program Assistant and conducts performance review with Program Director.
- Recruits, trains and assigns adult volunteers for programs.
Marketing
- Plan, post and implement seasonal gym schedules.
- Post information for and results of all athletic activities.
- Promotes athletic programs within the club, in the schools and in the community.
- Update social media outlets such as website and facebook, twitter and Instagram.
- Prepares and keeps bulletin boards updated.
Other Duties
- Serve as Assistant Director of the Summer Camp (see Asst. Camp Director JD).
NOTES
- Work schedule varies with season. Summer = M-F 9-5:30, Fall and Spring = M-F 12:30 - 8:30, Winter = T-F 12:30 - 8:30 and Saturdays 8:00 - 4:00
