Overview
The Assistant Distribution Manager will focus on training and developing their skills under the guidance of the current Senior Distribution Manager. This is a developmental position which assists in developing future leaders at a distribution center or other supporting WSC department. The position will support the Senior Distribution Manager in overseeing the warehouse office and staff, taking responsibility for maintaining proper safety procedures, proper maintenance of the facility and equipment (including a tractor/trailer fleet), and ensuring that we accurately distribute quality building materials on a predictable schedule that fulfills our customer’s needs.
The Assistant Distribution Manager is a working roll which requires performing all tasks involved in the distribution of WSC products while the Sr. Distro Manager is on site, or the Assistant Distribution Manager is not engaged in managerial activities. This is a cross functional role responsible for following standard work methods and the practice of safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (not limited to)
- Daily communication with all employees to ensure all the objectives for the day are met in a timely manner
- Use current reports to make management decisions and changes to staff and routes
- Productivity within Warehouse (orders shipped, errors, transactions, etc.)
- Drivers’ performance (miles per gallon, idle time %, etc.)
- Ensure that warehouse best practices and disciplines are being followed
- Oversee that incoming materials have been properly received and put away in preparation for the picking crew
- Ensure that all daily orders have been routed and shipped
- Review delivery routes as business needs dictate with the Transportation Director and Regional Distribution Manger
- Review and maintain all reports that are your responsibility
- Maintain appropriate staffing based on our seasonal business - Work with Human Resources and Distribution Management for approvals
- Ensure good communication between Purchasing, Customer Service, Sales, Credit and all other Warehouses to ensure that customers commitments have been satisfied
- Maintain a positive and CLEAN work environment in conjunction with maintaining and enforcing all SAFETY procedures while ensuring warehouse team is following procedures as well
- Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment, buildings, and grounds
- Ensure that all processes and procedures are followed to ensure Customer satisfaction
- Respond promptly to all email and phone messages from your Managers and other Departments
- Perform Monthly and Yearly Performance reviews on all employees
- Regular communication with the Senior Distribution Manager and Regional Distribution Manager
- Take full ownership of warehouse performance through financial reporting analysis
- All other tasks as assigned by Management
Qualifications
AN ASSITANT DISTRIBUTION MANAGER WILL POSSESS AND DEMONSTRATE:

Education / Experience:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Management, Engineering, or Finance. Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 to 10 years manufacturing, warehouse, or material handling experience
- 3 to 5 years manufacturing or warehouse leadership and supervisory experience
- Logistics and transportation management experience to support a fleet of tractor/trailers preferred but not required
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) rules and guidelines preferred but not required
Working Demands / Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand/bend/walk for long periods of time
- Ability to work flexible shifts to support training objectives
- 7am to 5pm
- 5pm to 2am
- Travel Requirements
- Up to 30%
