Alumni Relations Officer - College of Engineering

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Alumni Relations Officer - College of Engineering at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

JOB PURPOSE
 
Coordinate, execute and manage alumni programs for the College of Engineering (College). Implement innovative plans and strategies to engage alumni and donors in meaningful ways, generate affinity, loyalty and enthusiasm for the College and its professional events and programs. Conduct purposeful alumni engagement, donor cultivation, pipeline development and qualification efforts. This position reports to the Director, Alumni Relations.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
Coordinated and manage alumni programs for the College of Engineering’s 31,000 alumni. Implement innovative plans and strategies to engage alumni and donors in meaningful ways, generate affinity and enthusiasm for the College. Oversee the implementation and promotion of social and academic programs and events.
Create and update the annual operating plan for the College to meet alumni engagement goals and objectives. Build a strong program to increase participation while meeting alumni engagement objectives and data enhancement goals. Coordinate distribution of electronic communications to targeted alumni audience.
Collaborate with the Dean, development team and centrally-based colleagues to increase donor support. Cultivate and engage prospects in strategic ways. Use planned activities for pipeline development and to identify prospective donors for the College. Use thoughtful communications to cultivate prospective donors and demonstrate the positive impact of alumni and donor involvement.
Work closely with the Office of Alumni Relations to align strategies, communications and programming with overall divisional goals. Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels. Meet regularly to collaborate and review opportunities for partnership.
Manage and oversee the activities of the Engineering Alumni Council and other volunteer opportunities for College of Engineering alumni, including the Industry Mentor Program.
Prepare project and event budgets. Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures.
Remain current with alumni and donor relations trends. Serve as a resource on successful activities, alumni engagement techniques and methods. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Customer Accountability: Interfaces with customers outside the S/C/D
Freedom to Act: Subject to general input from supervisor.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education   
Bachelor's degree
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field. Knowledge of fundraising software preferred. Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures.
Experience   
Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Qualified candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience as a development, marketing or event management professional. Higher education development or alumni relations experience and prior volunteer management experience preferred.
Experience using social media preferred. 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.
 
PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
 
ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
 
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.
 
LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.
 
TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
