JOB DESCRIPTION
PARK MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST
Status: Full-time
Starting Salary Range: $17.17 – 17.64/hr. ($35,713.60 - $36,691.20)
Pay Grade: 4
Reports To: Operations Manager
Classification: Intermediate - Employee has supervisory responsibilities relating to seasonal and part-time staff, interns, and volunteers. Employee has the authority to recommend any reward or disciplinary actions necessary.
The position of Park Maintenance/Construction directly involves general maintenance, and facility repairs and construction within all county parks, but is not limited to the following illustrative duties:
1. Performs maintenance duties including: litter/trash collection, mowing and trimming, landscaping, cleaning, snow removal, and vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
2. Supervises seasonal and permanent part-time employees on routine construction and maintenance projects as needed.
3. Trains new seasonal employees in regard to equipment operation and safety practices.
4. Must be able to plan, organize, and complete construction projects such as gates, bridges, and signposts.
5. Must be able to routinely lift 50 lbs.
6. Must be able to operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to the following; power tools such as saws, drills, table saw, router, chain saws, and weed eaters; heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and chipper.
7. General construction skills would include basic plumbing, concrete work, masonry, electrical, and rough carpentry.
8. Works with staff to create plans and designs for maintenance and visitor facilities.
9. Keeps current on safety practices and on the safe and efficient use of equipment.
10. Serves as a member of various Tactical Objectives Teams.
11. Maintains current CPR and First Aid certifications.
12. Works flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
13. Assists the Operations Manager in conducting equipment and supply inventories.
14. May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License in coordination with vending operations.
15. Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager that are deemed appropriate and necessary for the position.
16. Must be team oriented and willing to work to build an atmosphere of teamwork in the workplace with staff at all levels.
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Park maintenance or construction experience preferred as well as computer literacy and previous knowledge of the operation of various tools and construction equipment.
-Must complete the N.C. State Maintenance Management Program within 2 years of hire.
