WCNY is seeking a diverse and creative copywriter and events planner to support our marketing team and overall brand. Our brand consists of three radio stations with locally produced shows and on-air hosts, as well as our locally produced TV shows. Do you have experience in writing promotional copy, as well as planning and coordinating community events? Do you have the skills to write promotional copy for live-televised auctions, an experiential learning program preparing the youth of tomorrow for career and college success, social media engagement, community events, fundraisers, client events, and more? This position will also be responsible with WCNY’s virtual and in-person events. The position supports day-to-day client and WCNY events, as well as digital and print marketing efforts. Strong knowledge of WCNY and strong customer service skills are crucial to this position. The Marketing and Events Coordinator position will report to the Director of Creative Services and will work closely with the entire organization to help with a variety of events’ service inquiries.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Incorporate best practices regarding confidentiality into all job duties and communications in accordance with WCNY policies and procedures and other applicable regulations.
  • Serve as a contact for events, assisting in the development and execution of events
  • Coordinate logistics and customer service around event execution
  • Assist with marketing a variety of spaces for rentals including business meetings, screenings, production shoots, general WCNY events, and more.
  • Support grant efforts including research, writing, and reporting, budget, and vendor relations.
  • Assist with social media efforts including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Represent the organization positively with a high level of professionalism at all events.
  • Ensure information accuracy through proofreading.
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors for event.
  • Assist with development in event budgets, including purchasing and invoicing.
  • Identify partners for food, entertainment, promotion and other supplemental that will enhance customers’ events and coordinate services.
  • Liaise between staff, volunteers, and interns ensuring all elements of events are thoroughly communicated across all pertinent departments.
  • Maintain inventory of event supplies.
  • Write copy for all marketing platforms to include electronic newsletters, website, social media, WCNY’s CONNECT magazine, billboards, digital ads, presentations etc.
  • Adhere to WCNY vision, mission, and values
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications/Skills

  • A college degree in marketing, communication, advertising, or public relations is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and social media platforms
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Ability to write content across multiple platforms
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Focus on delivering results and team success
  • Self-confident, self-motivated, self-starter, results-orientated, and success driven
  • Design skills a plus
  • Willingness and ability to learn how to use virtual event technology
  • Good organizational skills
  • Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping with various tasks as required.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Physical demands—Standard office functions, ability to travel/drive to meet with suppliers and customers/prospects.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours— Typically Monday through Friday work hours, with flexibility to adjust schedule to work after hours or on weekends for rentals and events.

Travel—Approximately 10% local travel (2-hour drive time max).

Additional eligibility qualifications—Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Suite of products.
