Job Responsibilities

NOTE: The person in this position is considered a Marketing Function Employee for the purposes of the Wisconsin Electric - American Transmission Company Standards of Conduct Agreement.

  • Dispatch owned and contracted generation resources in real time (24x7) to maintain reliability in an economic and safe manner.
  • Use load forecasting applications, weather forecasting services, weather and load history, and experience to forecast system loads.
  • Create demand bids using load forecasts, market price forecasts for Day Ahead and Real Time markets, projected generator availability and commitments, projected net position, transmission system topology expectations derived from available information and experience, and in consideration of interrelationships with Financial Transmission Rights and generation asset values.
  • Use pricing, operating, and market-driven tactics to create and optimize the WEC Energy Group net asset portfolio (load assets, generation assets, financial transmission rights, and other financial instruments) while maintaining compliance with Independent Market Monitor rules and requirements.
  • Work closely with personnel in Electric System Operations and Green Bay Remote Operations to reliably and economically dispatch WEC Energy Group generation.
  • Communicate frequently with personnel in Electric System Operations, Green Bay Remote Operations and power plants and with the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the American Transmission Company (ATC).
  • Coordinate unit availability, maintenance requirements, and outage requirements for owned and contracted generation in a reliable and cost effective manner. Develop an understanding of various energy resources as the WEC Energy Group fleet incorporates new, complex technologies, including solar and battery resources, under the efficiency, sustainability and growth (ESG) initiative and generation reshaping plan.
  • Operate multiple computer applications for market operations, settlement, planning, monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of MISO operations and settlement business practices, rules and procedures, NERC reliability standards, and RFC and/or MRO reliability requirements. May participate in oversight of market operations activities of WEC Infrastructure (WECI) projects in MISO and other markets and/or conduct market operations activities for WECI projects.
