Job purpose
Adjunct Communications Instructors to support the College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) Program supporting Camp Pendleton, CA. The SEBSP executes in two parts, beginning with an eight (8) week non-resident seminar (NRS) period involving evening (after workhours) seminars; and a two-week final resident seminar (FRS) period with daily seminars. The program supports sixteen (16) regional senior enlisted (E-8) cohorts, executed in four (4) integrated cycles each Academic Year (AY). The Communications Instructor will provide respective faculty services during NRS.
Duties and responsibilities
Maintain Subject Matter Expert (SME) proficiency in Communications with an emphasis on writing and oral presentation.
Conduct Socratic style onsite and online seminars, according to CDET schedules that include seminar sessions meeting either weekly during the evenings or monthly in the case of the weekend seminars. The handling and managing of online seminar instruction is similar to the weekly evening seminar except students complete their assignments online.
Teach only CDET approved curricula.
Use CDET teaching materials, faculty guides and faculty LSS sites.
Grade students’ papers, essays, planning products and perform any grading requirements as specified in CDET course closeout policies and timelines.
Ensure strict enforcement of test security and integrity.
Follow the CDET approved academic schedule.
Grade according to CDET prescribed rubrics.
Remediate students by providing extra and personal instruction to students who fail assignments.
Enforce the CDET academic integrity policy.
Encourage maximum participation of student responses for EOC surveys via the LSS at the end of each seminar course.
Ensure LSS enrollment of eligible faculty and students into courses and provide faculty and students limited basic LSS support.
Participate in no more than eight (8) hours of local FD per AY, as determined by the local RD.
Complete all MCU Mandatory Faculty trainings (e.g., Faculty Orientation 101 and Faculty 201).
Complete LSS administrative duties in accordance with CDET policy.
Qualifications
Demonstrated strong grammar and editing skills and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills required
Military or DOD familiarity preferred
Knowledge of and experience employing adult learning theory and teaching strategies preferred
Experience with Learning Support Systems (LSS) or Learning Management Systems (LMS) (e.g., Moodle) preferred
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field
