The Weber County Library seeks a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual to help with the preparation of print and media materials for public checkout.  Clerical/cataloging tasks will be assigned as necessary.  If you enjoy behind-the-scenes work and have a passion for detail and a quality end result, apply today!  Please note that this is not a seasonal position.

OVERVIEW:

As a member of the Library’s program implementation team, under the supervision of the Technical Services manager, this employee contributes to the daily operations of Technical Services by processing print and nonprint materials; performing skilled mending of Library materials; and performing other clerical/cataloging tasks as assigned. 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process print and non-print materials in accordance with Library standards and procedures for addition to the Library’s collections

Follow through with procedures to facilitate the Library’s interlibrary loan service

Mend print and nonprint materials

Preserve safety, appearance, and condition of Library facilities and property

ABOUT YOU:

Education: High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities for the position

Experience: Previous experience working in a library cataloging department preferred

Ability to communicate in more than one language preferred

Knowledge:  Familiarity with standard software used in business applications such as Microsoft products, especially Word and Excel; Familiarity with current Web applications such as search engines, email interfaces, social media, and eBook and eAudio applications/commonly used devices; Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community

Skills:  Skilled in customer service

Abilities:  Ability to work methodically with strict attention to detail; Ability to complete assigned tasks within established time frame; Ability to work as a team member to accomplish results; A commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively with a diverse patron base; Ability to implement Library Board policies and procedures; Understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of Library divisions and buildings

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk, hear, crouch, crawl, balance, reach, stoop, and kneel.  Must use hands and fingers to operate a computer.  The employee is regularly required to lift up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally up to fifty pounds.  The employee must be able to remove library materials from shelves at a maximum height of six feet and push library carts weighing up to 175 pounds.  Must be able to move about the work area, talk clearly with customers, and hear customer responses.  Must have excellent close vision and good distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works indoors in an office environment.  Occasional public service shifts may be assigned to provide coverage. 

Employees must be able to work rotating shifts (seven days a week) and flexible hours (morning, afternoon, evening, and holiday hours) when the Library is open.  All employees will work up to two evenings per week and will alternate weekend shifts with the other employees in their division. Employees will also work holiday hours of equal proportion to those of other employees in their division.

Job Class: 614

Pay Band: 10

Must have actively and consistently demonstrated all of the skill, ability, and willingness to perform, and lead others in, all duties associated with a Technical Specialist (Business) II position in an above standard manner over a period of two years; must assume responsibility for taking on a special task or ongoing projects according to established procedures and System priorities.
