PRESCHOOL NEW SPED TEACHER/CDA MENTOR

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Preschool New SpEd Teacher/CDA Mentor. This position requires visits, mentoring, and providing support in curriculum, instruction and technology for Preschool SpEd teachers and Child Development Associates (CDA).

Job Description: Under the direction of the Preschool Dept., the Preschool New

SpEd Teacher/CDA Mentor is responsible for the mentoring of assigned mentees, including but not limited to:

• Providing curriculum and instructional support, professional development, and technology integration and special education compliance.
• Coach and train with fidelity on the implementation of the adopted WeCan curriculum and Handwriting Without Tears
• Meeting with each classroom of each new teacher/CDA.
• 1st year teachers/CDAs weekly at a minimum
• 2nd year teachers/CDAs twice a month at a minimum
• 3rd year teachers/CDAs monthly at a minimum
• Conducting a scheduled observation once per term; new SpEd teachers or CDAs in a program to receive an educator license must have 3 observations per term
• Modeling/role-playing/co-teaching with/for new SpEd teacher/CDA in classroom
• Coordinating and providing side-by-side observation for new SpEd teacher/CDA to observe “master” teachers in their buildings or district (1 full day every year for first three years)
• Specific to SpEd Teachers - Training implementation of instruction and supports for student’s receiving services outlined on an IEP, i.e. ensure that new SpEd teacher can:
• Complete an appropriate and compliant IEP on Goalview, including notice of meeting
• Conduct IEPs, includes mentor initially attending IEPs
• Develop a data tracking system to show progress on IEP goals and track Medicaid-billable services
• Complete components of Special Education eligibility (referral, data review, consent, evaluation results summary and eligibility)
• Training implementation of differentiated instruction and supports for students with diverse learning needs, i.e. Special Education, English Language Learners, etc.
• Providing support and guidance in classroom management strategies.
• Assisting in the development of behavior interventions and plans.
• Attending all district directed professional development training sessions and mentor meetings
• Participating in new teacher development, new teacher orientation, model classroom visits, etc.; (note - some training may occur in the summer).
• Completing a mentor log form for their mentee on each visit.
• Providing a copy of the mentor log to the teacher/CDA, building administrator, and mentor supervisor after each visit.
• Communicating with principal(s) about new teacher/CDA’s progress and goals.
• Scheduling visits will be arranged between the teacher/CDA (mentee) and the mentor.
• Checking in at the main office and sign the itinerant log in each school with the building administrator before the visit.

Job Qualifications: Minimum Position Qualifications

• Mentors should have a minimum of three years teaching experience in preschool, mild/moderate, or severe classrooms (preferred Professional Educator license)
• Current Special Education teaching position in Weber School District (preferred).
• If working in a current teaching position and hired for position, as a mentor will be allocated released time from current teaching position, or paid an annual stipend.
• Hold a current educator license in the State of Utah
• Valid Driver’s License, operational vehicle and insurance
• Contracts will be renewed each May for the following year.
