What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Learning & Curriculum position at Webflow?

At Webflow, we’re building the world’s most powerful visual development platform to empower people to create incredible experiences on the web — without needing to manually write and manage code.

Webflow’s education resources are known for breaking down complex topics with focus, clarity, and humor. The vast majority of our educational offerings are made available for free on Webflow University: our platform for learning design and development. As Webflow offers a visual interface for HTML and CSS, millions of users come to Webflow University to learn the broad principles of web design and web development — not just Webflow! 

As we expand our team (currently 3 technical writers) and build out our curriculum for scale, we’re looking for an experienced leader to grow and support our learning and curriculum needs. As the Director of Learning & Curriculum, you’ll design, develop, manage, and scale the curriculum on Webflow University to become the go-to place to learn web design and development. This will include leading and developing the strategy for curriculum development, certifications, and comprehensive documentation for Webflow University. You’ll report to and serve as strategic advisor to our VP of Education & Community, and work closely with the department’s leadership team to multiply the impact of learning throughout our community.

While this leadership role is open to remote candidates, maximum overlap with the Pacific Time Zone is highly preferred.

As a Director of Learning & Curriculum, you’ll … 

  • Build and maintain the best design and development curriculum on the planet. You’ll build out and optimize the learning and certification pathways on Webflow University, from managing the production of individual articles that solve common development challenges to owning the curriculum design for major courses and product areas. This is not just teaching Webflow; this is teaching the principles of web design and development to millions of people across the globe.
  • Lead and grow a team of world-class curriculum developers, technical writers, and instructional designers. Your team will work cross-functionally to plan out and create interactive ways to learn — from written documentation and video production to in-product teaching and even gamified learning experiences. If it gets people excited about building for the web, we’re going to do whatever it takes to work with you on it! 
  • Manage Webflow’s customer-facing documentation. Your team will build and maintain high-impact documentation that solves real customer challenges and opportunities at scale. Since these resources can often help users realize the full potential of development (and even customize beyond what tools like Webflow and frameworks like React natively support today), your work here will help empower millions of people to create for the web.
  • Push the boundaries of what’s possible with education. This team enjoys a ton of experimental freedom, so we’re always looking for ways to do better, even if they’re not yet 100% proven. If it gets our users excited about learning, we’re probably going to do whatever it takes to at least try it out. We love engaging documentation, scripted video, unscripted video, teaching visuals, and anything that integrates storytelling into the learning process. We also love what we don’t yet know — and about a billion other things that won’t fit in this paragraph.

That said, these responsibilities are just the start! At Webflow, we encourage you to contribute wherever your interests take you — and shape your role accordingly. 

And this isn’t just a philosophical bent: we actually give you 4 hours a week (10% of the work week) to pursue passion projects outside of your role responsibilities.

About you 

You’ll thrive as a Director of Learning & Curriculum if you:

  • You have a technical background and can quickly ramp into leading technical teams
  • You look at complex topics as huge opportunities to create high-impact learning experiences — and you’re constantly on the lookout for how to make learning clearer, more engaging, and less boring
  • Have significant experience managing complex documentation, technical writing, or curriculum development projects
  • You love driving cross-functional projects, and you want you curriculum decisions to resonate through the entire company and the broader community
  • Are a thoughtful, direct, and kind communicator, both verbal and written — and can train and coach others to achieve at this level
  • Love creating alignment among different functions in an organization, fostering healthy team collaboration, and building an environment of operational excellence and psychological safety
  • Love to learn from our customers and collaborate with different teams to solve complex problems
  • You get energy from being a candid truth-teller and can present constructive feedback in a caring way, especially to other leaders and executives
  • You constantly seek to multiply the potential of the people and teams around you
