SUMMARY
Manage optical dispensaries’ finances, provide and supervise eyeglass fitting and/or contact lens fitting. Manage fiscal outcomes within site. Make highly-technical decisions regarding style, fit, and visual acuity of eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. Provide contact lens and/or eyeglass fitting, adjusting and selection services to patients. Dispensing according to style as well as fit while enhancing customer satisfaction when making the best recommendation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Advises patients by providing them with key technical information to help them make the appropriate eyewear selection with the intent of restoring optimal visual acuity.

Employs customer service skills to positively impact the experience of care for our patients, external customers and internal service partners.

Consults with patient, resolves eyewear problems or concerns. Performs maintenance on eyewear.

Analyzes individual patient’s records, lab bills, and eye frame invoices to provide fiscal responsibility at site level and input at department level. Analyzes lenses to ensure department and industry standards.

Advises and assists patient in frame/lens selection. Performs measurements of frame & lens specifications.

Assist with preparing patients for exams, rooming patients, and/or dispensing contact lenses. Performs eyewear adjustments and repairs. Matches styles with customer needs. Knowledge of and ability to utilize the principles, tools, and methods of TQI.

Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with staff, providers, and patients.

Informs staff (including providers) on proper protocols, procedures and new products in order to improve sales.

Places orders for frame and lens fabrication with approved optical laboratories. May also order contact lenses. Verifies orders (eyeglasses or contact lenses) received from optical/contact lens laboratories/vendors to ensure accuracy.

Maintains displays with accurate pricing, purchasing appropriate frame product, and perform physical count of inventory as directed. Maintains diagnostic contact lens inventory by organizing, cleaning, and performing physical count as directed. Maintains and orders department supplies.
Other functions may include but are not limited to conducting the following eye tests; visual acuity, auto refraction, spectacle neutralization, blood pressure, history interview, chief complaint, stereopsis, color.

Considers age related factors in care, education, and evaluation of patients ranging from neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies and procedures.

Demonstrates healthcare system values in daily work. Interact with all patients, families, physicians and clinical staff in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.

Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission and Laboratory Accrediting agency as required for full accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Certified: High school diploma or equivalent required and American Board of Opticianry Certification. Five years of experience working in optical dispensaries. Excellent internal and external communication skills. Ability to match styles with customer needs. . Excellent customer services skills. Must possess manual dexterity.
Non-Certified: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working in an eye clinic preferred. Excellent internal and external communication skills. Ability to match styles with customer needs. Excellent customer services skills. Must possess manual dexterity.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively with patients and employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide simple numbers. Ability to use a calculator.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases and medical preparations common to a clinic environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Performs a Class II job as classified by OSHA and may be exposed to Class II hazards.
