POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreational Therapist will deliver care throughout Wellbridge and is responsible for the day-to-day planning and implementation of recreational therapy on a licensed inpatient medically supervised stabilization and withdrawal program, rehabilitation program, and reintegration program. Carries out the Wellbridge vision, values and overall strategic planning, clinical management, and patient care. Promotes CTRS service standards and creates a patient-focused caring environment while addressing and meeting the individual needs of all patients. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses and other healthcare team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
Provide individual and group activities to promote healthy leisure, emotional wellness, self-care, and physical fitness for all treatment programs
Direct care delivery including but not limited to assessment of physiologic and psychosocial health status
Develops and coordinates array of therapeutic interventions using on-site wellness center, local and regional resources
Interviewing patients, establishing treatment goals and plan
Maintain understanding of current treatments, knowledge, and practices in addiction care and prioritize the use of best and evidence-based practices
Develop and maintain standard policies, procedures to ensure quality services and compliance with accrediting entities
Maintain documentation, patient files, and statistics as required by departmental policies and funding sources
Monitor supplies for wellness center / recreational therapy
Supervision and Support
Model the Wellbridge philosophy of patient-centeredness, empowerment, and cultural proficiency and seek supervision from clinical staff
Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients that is conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance, patient and family expectations of care
Recognize the need for patient care to be delivered in a culturally sensitive manner and model sensitivity to all staff
Collaboration
Support a culture of high quality of care across organization and engage all staff in the value of creative arts therapy in addiction care
Work collaboratively with the physicians, nurses, and therapists to develop personalized treatment plans
Collaborate and coordinate ancillary services (i.e. massage, acupuncture, yoga, physical therapists, personal trainers)
Field clinically related telephone calls and respond
Support efforts of Wellbridge research team to implement program improvement
Manage and promote relationship with academic and research institutions to promote addiction research and training
Facilitate the effective provision of support services essential to team-based patient care
Provide crisis support to patients as needed in emergency situations
Planning and Coordination
Participate in regular clinical team meetings and case conferences
Work closely with the clinical and advocacy teams to coordinate services to patients
Contribute ideas for growth and development of organization
Thoughtfully plan weekly recreation therapy and entertainment activities
Serve as a liaison and assist with community outreach/presentations
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s level degree in recreational therapy or related-behavioral sciences
BLS, required; ACLS or other certification, as required by department. Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
Familiarity with all relevant healthcare standards: OASAS, ASAM, JCAHO, etc.
Demonstrated communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with data management and electronic records
Strong problem solving, conceptual, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation
Clinical experience providing treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders for at least three (3) years.
Teaching experience
Experience with therapeutic groups (preferably addiction-oriented), therapeutic communities, and inpatient care
Experience evaluating program effectiveness and implementing data-driven process improvement
Knowledge of medications assisted recovery (MAR) and how behavioral interventions can support and improve outcomes for MAR
Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary and/or research team
