VitalSleep is currently seeking a full time Sleep Educator (Patient Navigator) to join our team!
The position is Monday - Friday (dayshift)
Candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in the sleep field and hold one of the following certificate/license:
RST
RPSGT
CRT/RRT-SDS
CCSH
JOB SUMMARY
The sleep educator (Patient Navigator) works under the general supervision of the program manager/supervisor to provide comprehensive education, evaluation, and treatment of sleep disorders, including scheduling in center testing, scheduling/providing home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education. In addition to proficiency in all competencies related to sleep technology, the sleep navigator participates with clinical patient education, compliance management, evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and home therapy. Education and management of patients with sleep disorders requires understanding of the multifaceted disease processes that affect both sleep and wakefulness. Essential Customer Service functions such as accurate data entry, charting, & updating of patient medical records according to policy is required. The sleep educator is credentialed in sleep technology or other allied health professions that have appropriate training in sleep-related patient management and is able to interact with physicians and other health care providers in a professional manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Knowledge of the elements of the Sleep Technologist role.
- Knowledge of specific clinical assessments using standardized diagnostic tools (e.g., Epworth Sleepiness Scale, STOP-BANG, etc.).
- Proficient in pathophysiology, epidemiology, and clinical guidelines for sleep disorders and treatment options.
- Intake orders & information (demographics, H&P, insurance and signed orders) from referral sources to schedule sleep studies and patient set-ups.
- Contact patients within 24-48 hours to schedule overnight/daytime sleep studies.
- Verifies patient insurance/benefits.
- Processes patient information: demographics, insurance, and signed orders for home medical equipment.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and orders from patients & referral sources and receives patients and referral requests by telephone, email, fax. Analyzes requests, provides information requested or ascertains who can best provide information and routes appropriately.
- Resolves patient and referral complaints and concerns and is empowered to find quick solutions, in order to provide the best customer service possible.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with the patient’s healthcare team regarding new or continued symptoms, treatment concerns, or management of optimal care.
- Provide education to assist patients with treatment compliance including how to track health improvement indicators.
- Discuss equipment/supply replacement schedule.
- Assist with acclimation to PAP; proper usage of PAP, interface troubleshooting, pressure relief options, cleaning and safety education.
- Provide patient education for sleep disorders, comorbidities, therapeutic equipment and processes, therapy options, sleep hygiene and self-help.
- Promote community education on general sleep hygiene, sleep disorders, and treatment options.
- Manage patient compliance and outcomes database.
- Assist in answering phones & transferring calls to appropriate personnel in a prompt & courteous manner.
- Acquires necessary documentation and assembles patient charts to ensure complete and updated files, kept in appropriate order.
- Compiles and enters all patients’ billing information into billing system for clean claims.
- Uses software to track patient compliance, including face-to-face documentation from patients. Prepares reports as indicated by supervisor during training and in-services.
- Participates in marketing/PR related activities to physicians, referral sources and patients, as necessary
- Assists team as required and with other duties as assigned by the COO or designee.
- Travel may be required.
- On call as needed.
- Maintains professional, respectful interaction with co-workers, supervisors and patients.

- Supports the mission of the organization by providing the best customer service possible and by adhering to all policies and procedures established by LMD/Vital Sleep.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
License/Certificate:
License/Certificate:
- Valid State Driver’s License required.
- Holds a Certificate/License in one of the following
- RST
- RPSGT
- CCSH Certificate preferred
- CRT/RRT with SDS Certificate
- Texas State RT license required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support required.
Education:
- Associates degree required if CRT. Bachelors degree required if RRT.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years sleep experience required

- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the pathophysiology of sleep disorders and associated comorbidities.
