About this role
Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed health professional, the Licensed Mental Health Clinician Trainer is a licensed, Masters prepared clinician (LMFT/LCSW/ LPC) who is primarily responsible for the clinical and educational training component and of the Restoration of Competency (RTC) program. The Clinician/Trainer will utilize several cognitive remedial or restructuring techniques to teach basic legal concepts, as well as help the inmate understand his/her own legal situation in compliance with all applicable standards, State and Federal rules and regulations. The Clinician/Trainer is also the primary clinical staff and provides therapeutic support to the patients to foster a stable mental status as it relates to competency restoration.

What you bring to the table
Education
- Master's Degree with associated licensure as a LMFT, LCSW, LPC or related discipline
Experience
- Preferred, one years' experience as an LMFT, LCSW, LPC or related discipline
Licenses/Certifications
- LMFT, LPC, or LCSW (preferred)
Compliance
- Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
What you will do
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strict adherence to DSH and corporate Policy & Procedure (P&P) Manual as it relates to the duties of the Clinician/Competency Trainer.
- Hold daily, individual (1:1) sick calls and conduct weekly/daily psycho-educational groups for mentally ill and IST patient.
- Follow Department of State Hospital Policies and Procedures for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; assist the psychologist with producing timely court reports; work cooperatively with jail custody staff and RTC Deputy.
- Work supportively with the Sheriff's Office and teams and foster positive relationships between staff and Sheriff's Deputies/Officers.
- Develop and regularly update treatment plans and participate in a routine, multi-disciplinary Treatment Team meeting.
- Facilitate individual (1:1) clinical contacts with patients to support psycho-social progress, as it relates to competency (eg: cognitive-behavioral techniques, anger/anxiety management, etc.); training/tutoring with patients to review their specific case and how to assist their defense.
- Coordinate discharge planning and aftercare plans through available community and facility resources.
- Document all findings in patient's record providing written summaries of history and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by corporate and facility.
- Provide weekly/daily group training, learning and education in a creative and multimodal format, utilizing discussions, reading, video, and role-playing in a group treatment setting.
- Facilitate experiential methods such as "mock trial" exercises for the patient with the involvement of the treatment team.
- Educational components for the program include but are not limited to: Charges, severity of charges, sentencing, pleas, plea-bargaining, roles of courtroom personnel, adversarial nature of the trial process, evaluating evidence, etc.
- Participate in routine Treatment Team meetings.
- Assist in IMO/ALJ processes, as needed.
- May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff.
- May assist in orientation and training of new employees.
