How you make a difference

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is responsible for providing advanced surgical dental services to inmate patients in compliance with security regulations. The Surgeon is also required to maintain accurate documentation of services provided and report to the Dental Director or designee for compensation monitoring purposes. This role requires a focus on compliance with client contracts and ensuring the highest quality of care for inmate patients. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced dental surgical care and treatment to referred patients at assigned facility, while abiding by standard precautions and dental policies. 
  • Evaluate patients' dental care needs and recommend appropriate clinical actions, functioning as a consultant to staff health care providers when necessary. 
  • Monitor dental supplies and equipment, take impressions for dental appliances, instruct patients in good dental hygiene techniques, and ensure SOAP-format progress note documentation. 
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and respect patients' rights to privacy according to accepted practices for incarcerated individuals. 
  • Provide in-service training for health staff members on dental hygiene, care, emergencies, and techniques, and provide input into facility committees when requested, while also performing other assigned duties. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduated from an accredited school of dentistry medicine

Experience

  • One year of experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery preffered

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have and maintain a current license as a Dentist with the State. 
  • Must obtain a CPR certification.
