About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director to lead the Home Lending Technology Customer Experience, Marketing and Sales (CEMS) teams responsible for daily support, systems availability and reliability of key applications and platforms, and transformation including modernization of key systems and agile teams' growth and maturation.  This individual must be able to work well with Audit, Risk, Legal, Technology Vendor, and Business Partners to ensure clear communication on enabled features and capabilities. They must have technology skills with a proven track record of being able to drive technology execution across both managed and co-supplier teams. The goal is to simplify, automate, and optimize CEMS products with a continuous focus on our customers.  You will need to be able to draw upon not only your background and experiences, but also recognize the components of different people and groups to orchestrate the sequence of many different initiatives.


In this role, you will:

  • Manage a team of engineering managers and engineering leads
  • Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Lead a team of ~150 global engineers to design, test and build safe, efficient, and innovative solutions for a portfolio supporting over 45 applications.
  • Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
  • Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans
  • Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices
  • Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third-party providers
  • Identify financial management and strategic resourcing
  • Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
  • Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent
  • Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
  • Create an innovative culture within the engineering organization, solving future business needs with continuously evolving modern technical capabilities.

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 8 years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • 4 years of Management experience

  • Management experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience with systems architecture and design
  • 5 years of experience with modern software engineering technologies and tool sets
  • 3 years of managing a 100 FTE engineering organization
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (GCP/Azure) and experience in hybrid cloud AI/ML Infrastructure, data platforms and multi-tenant architecture.
  • Communication skills are vital to convey complex technical concepts to non-technology stakeholders. Continuous innovation and staying abreast of industry trends are essential. 
  • Ability to manage mission critical or highly available platforms or applications with distributed server platform experience.
  • The candidate must be comfortable in front of large audiences to develop, influence and foster the community.
  • Demonstratable knowledge and understanding of technology support: large information technology (IT) environment, multiple computing environments, operating systems, and hardware platforms.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology support: web and services platforms along with system integration: engineering or platform engineering experience.
  • Must have strong executive presentation and relationship building skills. Ability to present a message clearly and succinctly to business leaders, product leaders and very large and executive audiences.
  • Extensive experience in technology leadership roles within the financial services industry, preferably in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise in risk controls self-assessment and implementing effective risk management strategies.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing technology strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory compliance, security, and privacy requirements within the financial services sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead teams through transformational change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic mindset and the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Transformation experience within large matrixed organizations and how to simplify the organization.
  • Understanding of complex organizational design and different approaches towards organizational design.
  • Understanding of financial and budgeting practices and how an enterprise would operate in a product-centric manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing, and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction.
  • High level understanding of enterprise and domain architecture.
