About This Role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Legal EEO Associate Counsel join the Employment Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. For additional information on this line of business, refer to the external Careers Site at Wellsfargo.com/career.

In This Role, You Will

  • Analyze and respond to legal claims pending with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") and related state agencies by current and former employees
  • Submit the company's response to employment discrimination claims filed before an agency or legal letters submitted by the employee's attorney
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences and agency investigations, including drafting settlement documents
  • Participate in or provide support for low complexity initiatives
  • Provide legal consult in negotiations and settlements
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in risk management
  • Research and analyze matters pertaining to various aspects of the company's operations
  • Develop specialization within law while developing broader and deeper expertise
  • Review issues, policies or procedures for which answers can be quickly obtained related to low-to-medium risk deliverables
  • Manage complex claims as well as complex exposure, identification, and analysis, risk mitigation, financing, and claims programs world-wide
  • Serve as a representative of the Company in complex claims including mediation, arbitration, and other settlement conferences with outside claimants, attorneys, mediators, and insurers
  • Receive direction from supervisor and exercise independent judgment while developing understanding of policies, procedures, specialization, and compliance requirements
  • Evaluate the impact of major changes in the law, assess the impact, and make appropriate recommendations to management
  • Provide legal advice on varying company operational topics (tax, personnel, mergers and acquisitions, policy, regulations, etc.)
  • Collaborate and consult with managers, functional colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Partner with business line and other corporate group partners to develop and implement risk management programs
  • Support and consult with more experienced counsel on complex matters and outside counsel on complex matters
  • Monitor and coordinate with outside counsel

Required Qualifications:

  • 6 months of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience investigating merits of administratively filed employment claims and evaluating legal risk of those claims
  • Experience writing persuasive legal responses to the EEOC and related state agencies, including responding to letters submitted by the employee's attorney
  • Experience conducting research, analyzing and responding to discrimination cases
  • Knowledge of employment law and anti-discrimination law
  • Experience participating in agency onsite investigations, legal negotiations, mediations, and settlement conferences
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters
  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team
