Position Summary
The Janitor is responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness and disinfecting of the facility. Will ensure that the entire location is cleaned before and after each client uses the services including floors, beds, walls, restrooms, and office spaces. In addition to the typical janitorial services, responsible for cleaning up bodily fluids wherever the fluids may be present and laundry duties for client clothing and program clothing.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred.
- Experience of maintenance in a health care setting preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and high attention to detail.
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language and be able to communicate effectively with client and staff.
- Basic knowledge of infection prevention operations, including basic disinfection and hygiene.
- This position requires moderate to heavy exertion on a regular basis and will require candidates to be able to stand, reach, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to lift between 50 and 100 lbs as well as be available after hours.
- Occasional weekend, evening or night work if needed to ensure shift coverage and on-call on an as needed basis.
- Current CPR and first aid certificate or willingness to be trained required within first (90) ninety days of employment.
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, handwashing, symptom self-monitoring masking and social distancing.
- Assist and support the organization to meet standards of high reliability.
- Must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage the general operating maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper infection prevention care of the clients under the direction of the Program Manager or designee.
- Clean location before and after each client uses the services, including mopping, disinfecting, wiping down or hosing down furniture, and may include exposure to bodily fluids.
- Maintain regular restroom cleaning and disinfecting many times per shift.
- Perform laundry duties for client personal clothing, and the program's clothing and bedding; ensuring proper temperatures and protocols are followed for sanitizing laundry.
- Ensure walls, floor coverings, doors, and woodworks in the common areas are properly maintained and cleaned.
- With coordination of the Program Manager, review safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions.
- Respond appropriately to client or staff emergencies by assisting as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
