Job Description:
Under supervision of the Director, Clinical Education, facilitates all surgery related education, including Periop 101, Periop 202, and the ASPAN programs for Surgical Services across the system. Leads and maintains clinical/nursing programs and courses for the surgical services clinical staff. Continually assesses audience learning needs and evaluates impact of learning outcomes. Works in conjunction with Instructional Design team in the assessment and development of new learning solutions, sometimes as the subject matter expert. In the role of Surgical Services Education Coordinator: provides oversight of the Periop 101 and 202 Program and ASPAN didactic program. Works with entity educators to coordinate the clinical experiences that align with the didactic courses. Coordinates all aspects of the courses and supports the hospitals with the clinical experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports a strategy to conduct any learning needs assessments for the service line.
- Provides educational programs and curricula for surgical services nursing staff as identified from education/learning needs assessment. Programs/curricula may be unit-based education or across the surgical service line.
- Track measurable outcomes related to improved patient outcomes as a result of knowledge gained from education.
- Meets with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to monitor orientation progress and assist in setting goals for orientee.
- Verifies orientation and training content is appropriate for achieving expected knowledge base and role independence.
- Consults with surgery leadership as needed with opportunities to improve learning programs and learner outcomes.
- Acts as a liaison between the new employee and surgical teams to facilitate the socialization process into the new unit and work culture.
- Develops/revises educational plan(s) accordingly to assure ongoing competency and validation of professional nursing practice.
- Will be considered the subject matter expert for the development of new learning solutions for targeted audiences in surgical services.
- Contributes to the enhancement of organizational, team and individual performance through the appropriate and measurable evaluation of education interventions.
- Facilitates the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of System-wide education programs for surgical services.
- Attends appropriate external education programs to evaluate courses for presentation within the System.
Qualifications

- Minimum Experience:
- 7 - 10 years’ experience in nursing with 3-5 years’ experience in Management or Administrative role
- Project Mgmt experience preferred
- Minimum Education:
- Master’s Degree
- Preferred Education:
- Doctorate Degree
- Required Certification:
- Registration and current RN license in PA; CNOR
- Skills:
- Assignment may require knowledge of computer software and operations
- Previous experience as a Periop 101 or ASPAN Educator/Coordinator strongly preferred
