What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Field Services position at Welty Building Co.?
As part of Welty Energy’s Leadership Team, the Director, Field Services will foster client relationships, team development, staff engagement, and process improvement while striving to become the best customer centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region.
Roles:
As the Welty Energy Director, Field Services, you:
- will be part of the Welty Energy Leadership Team and collaborate and consult for the benefit of the organization.
- will be responsible for the development and implementation of a Field Services Department.
- will develop and lead a team of Construction Managers, Construction Site Coordinators (CSCs), and other field service professionals that are overseeing and/or supporting the construction of substation, transmission, and distribution projects for our client(s).
- will develop, foster, and maintain relationships with our client(s) and be an advocate for Welty Energy’s field support services and capabilities.
- will foster a safety-focused culture.
- will consult on projects where your expertise and guidance are needed, e.g., constructability, site walk-downs, schedule development, outage review, pre-bids, pre-construction meetings.
- will collaborate with Portfolio Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers to provide support as requested to deliver excellence to our client(s).
- will be familiar with each of our client’s software, tools, and processes.
- will be involved with providing training to incoming Construction Managers, Construction Site Coordinators, Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Engineers as well as providing career development to your team.
- will coordinate project coverage for your team due to vacation, PTO, or lack of availability.
- will be responsible for the pursuit of new business with existing and/or potential clients.
- may be assigned specific tasks as needed and as determined by yourself or the Executive Vice President.
- will support the Executive Vice President with strategic initiatives.
- will ensure all new hires are safety-trained and facilitate this training as needed for the business.

- minimize or eliminate an environment of siloed operation between construction, project management, and engineering.
- sponsor and participate in the Welty Energy Safety Committee.
- support career development for your team.
- conduct career conversations for your team.
- participate in salary administration for your team.
- support training for staff onboarding.
- engage in Energy L10 Meetings and with Welty Energy Leadership Team.
- support strategic goals of Welty Energy.
- consult on projects with your team,
- attend site visits as needed.
- perform safety inspections regularly at project locations.
- track safety observations for Welty Energy.
- consult on projects when requested by a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Portfolio Manager, or other Welty Energy staff.
- support tasks assigned by a Project Manager or Portfolio Manager.
- support proposal reviews when requested.
- support bid package reviews when requested.
- establish training for your team.

Qualifications:
You should bring to the table:
- bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or similar preferred.
- minimum of ten years of construction experience. Electric utility construction a must.
- minimum of five years of experience directly managing people (having direct reports). Preference would be 7-10 years with direct reports.
- demonstrated experience developing new business.
- strong written and verbal communication skills.
- effective leadership and organizational skills.
- knowledge of or ability to learn client’s systems, tools, and processes.
