Overview of the Position:
Responsible for the management of all quality functions of The Wencor Groups PMA group and Assembly Shop procedures and product quality for Part Manufacturing Approval (PMA), Distribution and Repair.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage day to day management of the processes and personnel responsible for determining product quality and compliance from design to through production inspection.
- Manages quality system, which includes oversight of all related Quality Assurance Procedures, internal audits, customer audits and responses, root cause analysis and corrective action system.
- Inspection continuity, documentation, and final inspection of all items processed by the Repair Station.
- Ensure all incoming, hidden damage, preliminary, in-process, and final inspections are performed in accordance with the procedures set forth in this manual.
- Submit reports of serious defects or recurring un-airworthy conditions in accordance with the procedures described in this manual.
- Support the Purchasing department with the vendor qualification process, system related reporting metrics, and confer with material and component suppliers related to supply quality and oversee corrective action where needed.
- Manage all activities related to manufacturing quality assurance, including procurement quality, in-process and final inspection, process validation and the quality management operating system.
- Manage all aspects of the Metrology process including the training and performing of inspection and test analysis when needed.
- Manage the Prototype and Engineering Test Parts efforts to assure customer requirements are met.
- Lead and manage a continuous process improvement program incorporating a Corrective Action/Preventive Action CAPA program to ensure timely and effective resolution of process issues, capacity and throughput improvement opportunities and customer complaints.
- Maintains approval and continued compliance to aerospace industry dictated quality system requirements to include, but not limited to ISO9000, AS9100, FAR Part 21, and other major OEM contractual requirements.
- Review technical problems and procedures of the departments and recommend revisions that would enhance overall quality of processes and systems.
- Monitor effectiveness of the quality systems through timely reporting of internal and external quality metrics.
- Prepare and achieve department goals and objectives. Goal and objectives to focus on improved supplier quality, variation reduction, reduced costs and increase profitability.
- Prepare and manage the department annual budget.
- Manage all activities for audit certifications at the facility including FAA, customer and Registrars.
Education / Experience Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical degree, ten years related experience and/or training in aerospace concepts, practices and procedures: distribution and supply chain or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in managing people required. Minimum of five years of ISO/AS quality management system and trained as a QMS internal auditor. Active ASQ membership and/or related quality professional affiliations.

- Must be knowledgeable and understand modern theories (Total Quality Management, Kaizen, Lean)
- Process/quality improvement techniques (business process reengineering, Six Sigma, SPC) and quality process standards (ISO 9001, AS9100)
- Read analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
- Lead cross-functional teams in process improvement activities and to articulate corporate objectives effectively.
- Maintaining budget records and various reporting metrics through excel spreadsheets is also required.
Additional requirements:
- Must have knowledge of quality techniques, methods and procedures.
- Possess a basic knowledge of company organization, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of operational methods employed by Engineering, Manufacturing and Design would also be helpful. Knowledge of current quality control methods, including statistical techniques.
- Certification by the American Society of Quality would be desirable.
- Experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing techniques and 6 Sigma methodologies are desirable.
- Problem solving, SPC, FMEA, Control plans.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, business periodicals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and to develop and revise procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Must be proficient in the understanding of complex geometric dimensions and tolerances and have the ability to evaluate and interpret complex specifications and blueprints. Must be able to effectively communicate any problems they encounter with upper management, suppliers, and customers.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, commissions, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply advanced algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
