Overview
Facilitate the cost-effective, efficient, and compliant movement of goods internationally. Manage various tactical aspects of import/export US/Canada customs compliance related to shipments for distribution and plants, plus cross border shipments from Canada and Mexico. Oversee the management and development of the NA Trade Compliance Analyst. Partner with the Mexico Trade Compliance team.
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities:
- Mentor, coach and develop employees to ensure proper training, consistency, & continuity of work performed.
- Monitor and manage day to day import and export compliance including communication with 3PL’s, freight companies, customs brokers, couriers, internal departments, foreign and US suppliers and export customers.
- Oversee the processing of direct and indirect export shipments to customers and foreign sister entities (ie, MX, UK, etc.) including transfers of raw material and machinery purchases. Ensure all required export documentation, Denied Party Screening, SLI’s, EEI filings and any destination required documents are provided timely, complete, and accurate in accordance with all applicable regulations.
- Manage adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP’s/Vendor Guides, etc.) and trade compliance practices to ensure the uninterrupted flow of product from foreign suppliers to North American DC’s, plants, FTZ, and drop ship customers.
- Support and improve service level expectations, business expansions and capital/asset equipment transfer projects.
- Operational guidance/troubleshooting to resolve customs clearance problems inherent with foreign purchasing, export customer orders and worldwide transport.
- Manage tooling assist program and declarations to CBP for import shipments and First Sale customer direct import programs. (ie. Lowes and THD)
- Ensure timely processing of CBP ACH/PMS duty and CBSA ACH monthly statement payment programs, auditing, GL Coding, and payment of all customs brokerage invoices.
- Provide guidance and support to various stakeholders, including new product development, supply chain planning, procurement, finance, and engineering on Incoterms 2020, duty, NA customs requirements, Section 301/232, FTA’s, export regulations, etc.
- Ensure processes, procedures, and record-keeping are up to date for exports and imports and align within mandated guidelines as defined by Sr. Manager, International Logistics & Trade Compliance, and other corporate leadership positions such as legal, tax, etc.
- Provide on-boarding direction and support for all new suppliers, including JDE new supplier set up, regarding trade compliance related company and US government requirements.
- Support and assist the company’s designated trade consultant on HTS classification, ADD/CVD applicability, COO determination, USMCA eligibility and any other projects as needed.
- Miscellaneous projects as required.
Minimum Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Proven track record managing complex aspects of international trade compliance policies/regulations in concert with international logistics.
- Skilled in developing/maintaining relationships with overseas manufactures/customers, multi-modal transport, freight forwarders, customs brokers, regulatory agencies, and other departments.
- Strong managerial skills with ability to engage, mentor and guide direct reports.
- Ability to think critically.
- Possess advanced knowledge in logistics principles, global trade rules and regulations, HTS/ECCN classification, Incoterms 2020, USMCA, valuation, and global security programs (ie. CTPAT, ISF 10 2, EEI, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to assess risk, establish work prioritization and utilize process improvement methods to drive continuous improvement.
- Willing to roll up sleeves to get the job done and be a resource to others within the organization especially finance, sales, distribution, supply chain planning and customer service.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in international trade management/logistics, international supply chain management, or related international business studies.
- Customs broker license or proven on the job trade compliance expertise required.
- Minimum 10 years of managerial experience in international trade compliance with some exposure to international logistics.
- 5-7 years managing third party relationships.
