What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer - Automation position at Wesco?
As an Engineer-Automation, you will be the technical lead for automation solutions or enhancement, including digital, by integrating and deploying commercially available fulfillment systems. You may also be responsible for the support and continuous improvement of existing automation solutions within Wesco’s network and lead improvement efforts related to automated systems that are designed to enhance material movement and material handling within operations.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between the advanced operations group and the local operations team as it relates to automation deployment strategies and implementation plans
- Works with cross-functional teams to execute automation product designs from concept to production including specification, design, validation, testing and launch or support existing automation projects from implementation through end of life while looking for ways to optimize the efficiency of the solution; prepare specifications for improvements to existing or newly implemented automation robotic/mechatronic units
- Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to define, implement, and create guidelines for automation to enhance warehouse operation processes and / or partner with Information Technology and Operations teams to continuously improve existing automation and further enhance warehouse operation processes
- Perform engineering analysis on automation projects or may participate in simulation/emulation related to existing automation projects
- Work with the operations team to monitor and create metrics to evaluate existing automation system performance
- Educate and provide training for members of the technology deployment and warehouse operations team on automation system architecture, usability, and functionality
- Drive continuous improvement and efficiency through automation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Robotics Engineering or related field required
- 2 years of proven experience in similar position and exposure
- Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems
- CAD experience and understanding of best practices
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
- Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents
- Experience evaluating designs, performance, and logistical tradeoffs for hardware systems
- Proficiency with eCAD tools preferred
- Ability to travel up to 25%
