The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it serves as a partner with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography.
The Video Producer is responsible for all aspects of video production starting from ideation, planning (script & storyboard), pre-production, scheduling and shooting, to post-production and editing footage into engaging material for final delivery in video format. The position applies professional video, storytelling, and advertising knowledge to different contexts. The Video Producer will provide leadership and mentor the student work staff.

Responsibilities:
- Create high-quality videos that enhance Wesleyan’s reputation as a leader in liberal education.
- Generate new and engaging concepts, ideas, plans, and stories in collaboration with the Office of Communications that support Wesleyan’s brand.
- Utilize cameras to gather video footage and sound systems to record audio in studio settings and on location.
- Perform post-production tasks such as video editing, audio design, color grading, and creating motion graphics and animations.
- Catalog, manage and maintain a library of raw video for archival purposes on local and server backup storage.
- Provide leadership, mentor, and manage student work staff.
- Participate creatively in brainstorming sessions, group critiques, and team meetings
- regarding upcoming and completed productions.
- Formulate video distribution plans for Social Media channels, such as YouTube, Instagram, or Facebook.
- Quality control of video and related content before publishing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years (professional, or freelance) of proven experience in video production, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in all phases of the video production process, from pre-production and production to post-production.
- Demonstrated videographer or similar expertise
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, flexible and multitask in a fast-paced environment and bring multiple video efforts to fruition.
- Track record of independent creative decision making while maintaining institution and department guidelines.
- Proven ability to create video content for short-form and long-form.
- Experience in creating scripts and storyboards and presenting ideas to stakeholders.
- Expertise in post-production software for video editing, color-grading, closed-captioning, and encoding. Such software can include but is not limited to Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
- Proficient understanding of video file compression, codecs and formats.
- Demonstrated ability to use video production equipment, including mirrorless/DSLR cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, and audio gear.
- Proficiency in understanding video distribution methods via YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms.
- Experience in leading or managing project teams
- Experience with archiving and managing video footage; strong use and enforcement of naming conventions for both raw footage and final master programs.
- Strong and demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Experience with Still Photography.
- Supervisory experience, including interns, team members, and students.
- Ability to create motion graphics utilizing tools, such as After Effects
