RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use legal research tools, e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, Pacer, and other databases
- Research case- and program-specific legal matters
- Participate in assigned areas of criminal or civil proceedings
- Perform electronic discovery
- Prepare and maintains a variety case-related documents, e.g., discovery, letters, exhibit lists, witness data, etc.
- Provide a variety of legal assistance and technical work
- Appy knowledge of rules, processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities in Federal Court
- Receive, review and organize investigative material and documentary evidence received from investigative agencies
- Highlight deficiencies in case materials, e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements, etc.
- Help investigative personnel correct deficiencies in case material
- Conduct limited investigations at the pre-trial stage
- Work with law enforcement agencies to ensure cooperation in all aspects of assigned cases
- Help organize and manage cases
- Help prepare for trial or court presentation
- Prepare and organize exhibits, e.g., charts, diagrams, photos, models, etc.
- Compile, organize, and index various discovery, evidence, witness testimony, etc. for trial
- Develop and compile jury instructions to assist AUSA in preparing for trial
- Work closely with assigned attorney(s) to ensure material is efficiently arranged
- Produce and provide legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses during court proceedings
- Prepare lists and tables to correlate exhibits with grand jury transcripts
- Provide advice to attorney and other legal support staff
- Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the assigned AUSAs, which typically involves automation support or other administrative tasks. Automation support may include
- Develop methods to automate reports, statistical data, text and graphics
- Use established databases, perform data searches, design reports, etc.
- Serves as contact person for assigned cases
- Exercise discretion and judgment in determining what information may be provided and to whom
BACKGROUND
- Preference for 3 or more years of legal experience
