General Statement of Duties
Performs varied bookkeeping and accounting support duties to maintain accounting and utility billing records; provides customer service and technical assistance regarding utility billing and utility collections; performs a variety of administrative support and clerical duties; performs related work as required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares billing statements and performs collections of utility billing accounts;
- Enters new or revised account information in computer;
- Enters meter readings into established accounts for billing purposes;
- Evaluates meter readings and may request re-reads or meter checks;
- Performs mathematical calculations to adjust bills as needed;
- Monitors and evaluates industrial billings;
- Posts utility payments and enters daily revenue on computer; prepares balance reports;
- Responds to and resolves situations involving questions on a utility bill including discrepancies in amount paid, amount owed, billing schedules, billing history increases/decreases, billing and posting errors, address verification and dates for service commencement and termination;
- Responds to requests for information over the telephone or in person by customers and potential customers, including billing and account status, dig-line information, termination and/or malfunction in service and other related questions involving utility services;
- Gathers, assembles, updates, distributes and/or files a variety of information, forms, records and data as requested;
- Prepares reports on specific accounts and other aspects of assigned work;
- Assists with gathering and processing customer information regarding the commencement, termination or transfer of services, including customers’ personal information (address, etc.) and official information used by Department personnel;
- Prepares and distributes monthly bills to customers;
- Responds to all internal and external customers in a courteous and friendly manner to promote a service orientation;
- Evaluates plans for new and additional construction sites for connection fees;
- Bills and tracks connection fees;
- Works with contractors, owners and the City to establish and notify of connection fees;
- Performs various functions on the computer including word processing, spreadsheets, database mapping, publications, etc.;
- Responds to employees’ and citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Current practices and procedures involved in customer service;
- Modern office procedures, practices and equipment;
- Basic bookkeeping and accounting methods;
- Office filing systems and procedures.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Billing Clerk or similar role
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Pay: $16.45 - $18.00 per hour
