What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT/OT Specialist position at West Fraser?
As an IT/OT Specialist, you will play a key role in the support and expansion of the automation and predictive controls capabilities of our engineered and solid wood manufacturing facilities. This is an exciting role that covers a broad range of IT systems (networking, servers, virtualization, IP cameras), but specifically as it applies within the realm of operational technology (OT) in a manufacturing environment. You will be part of a small but versatile, and highly skilled team based out of our Remote Ops Center in Greenville, SC, supporting OT environments in plants across North America. There is opportunity to learn on the job and formal training is available.

What you will do:
- Working with technology both in server rooms and manufacturing plant floors
- Network design and documentation (wired and wireless)
- Layer-2 and layer-3 switch deployments and support
- Firewall configuration, maintenance, and monitoring
- Server & storage cluster deployments and support
- VMware-based virtualization platform deployments and support
- Windows servers and client support (virtual and physical)
- Performance monitoring and troubleshooting (networks, servers)
- Large-scale IP camera deployment support
- Rockwell-based technology support
What you will need:
- A strong work ethic with a go-getter attitude
- A willingness to learn and be technology savvy
- Ability to work well as a team in a highly collaborative environment, as well as work independently
- A Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent prior experience
- Experience with VMware, Windows, Cisco networking, and other computer science fundamentals
- Experience with FactoryTalk industrial automation software is highly favorable
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the OSB and lumber manufacturing processes
- The ability to visualize physical processes to remotely assist field personnel in set up and troubleshooting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to interpret and disseminate technical info to a wide range of skill sets and support roles
- A willingness and ability to travel to various locations across North America, both nationally and internationally as needed
