Job Description:
Instructs preschool students in activities designed to promote social, physical, emotional, and intellectual growth
Responsibilities:
Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment
Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity
Encourages students to express themselves creatively in art, music, and dramatic play
Provides appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable student behavior, attitudes, and social skills
Observes and records anecdotal notes on a daily basis
Administers developmental screenings and assessments as required
Assesses and documents student progress in student tracking software
Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of students in communication skills
Plans and coordinates the work of the classroom paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, and scheduled parent/teacher conferences
Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual student’s needs and the school’s role in the student’s life
Enriches educational programs through study trips to community resources such as parks, museums, and through classroom visits by resource persons from the school and community
Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children
Participates in staff meetings to discuss concerns of students
Cooperates with, seeks assistance from, and provides assistance to other professional staff members
Participates in the enrollment process and mandatory orientation at the beginning of the school year as needed
Follows all West Lafayette Community School Corporation policies and procedures
Completes and updates pertinent educational information and maintains confidential records
Other duties as requested by the supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid teaching license required with Early Childhood Education endorsement
Possession of a valid Indiana Driver’s License
Experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom or daycare setting
Possession of good interpersonal skills
Knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood Appropriate Practices
Ability to handle confidential information
Knowledge and proper usage of CPR
Facilitation and presentation skills
Patience and the flexibility to work with preschool students
Expected to have regular attendance be punctual
Ability to accept supervision and coaching as necessary
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Ability to plan and implement lesson plans based upon district and school objectives and the individual needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community
Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication
Abilities to regularly sit, talk, and hear as well as occasionally required to stand, walk, run, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, pull, or crawl
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds at at time. Must be able to push or pull items of 50 pounds, such as pushing children in a wagon or moving/rearranging furniture

Salary range of $42,000-$47,000 commensurate with training and experience
