Recruit CAMP eligible students through conducting recruiting and outreach activities within the migrant and Hispanic communities.

Assists with the CAMP new student orientation program and various CAMP student leadership programs.

Responsibilities :

  • Actively recruit CAMP eligible students through conducting outreach activities within the migrant communities and area schools.
  • Considerable local, regional and statewide travel.
  • Serve as a liaison for prospective students, parents and counselors throughout the recruitment and admissions process.
  • Evaluate participant's eligibility through applicants' file assessment and personal interviews to determine need for the program.
  • Provide advising about the CAMP program and University financial aid and admissions application processes.
  • Conduct interviews, meetings and seminars with parents, teachers, counselors, and referral agents to market the University and CAMP Program.
  • Assists with providing individual and group advising and support regarding career and college choices, admission requirements, and financial aid, assessment testing, college entrance exams, and career planning workshops.
  • Assists with the CAMP and University orientation programs that conduct activities targeting first generation, Spanish speaking students, parents and communities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications :

  • Bachelors in Education, Social Science, and related field.
  • One-year experience working with disadvantaged students in an educational setting.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record; must be able to obtain a State of Texas vehicle operator’s license within thirty days of employment;

must qualify to operate a vehicle within the TAMUS guidelines; must be able to maintain TAMUS approval.

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong advising and presentation skills.
  • Must be Bi-lingual (English / Spanish).
  • Computer literate.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • One-year recruiting, advising or mentoring students.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity in serving disadvantaged student populations.
  • Experience with and / or understanding of migrant populations and the College Assistance Migrant Program.
  • Knowledge of Datatel, Microsoft word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of WTAMU degree programs, admissions criteria and policies.
