    SALARY: $83,499.00 - $90,499.00 (Commensurate with educational level)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Work collaboratively within the Office of PK-12 Academic Support and all other Offices at the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) to provide support to special and general education teachers of mathematics in Grades K-5.
    • Provide numeracy support to Multi-County Consortiums and Local Education Agencies.
    • Provide numeracy support to help close the achievement gap in mathematics of all students in Grades K-5, including the students with disabilities subgroup.
    • Support the Unite with Numeracy statewide Initiative for K – 12 and other improvement initiatives related to mathematics.
    • Develop and implement professional learning opportunities and support materials aligned to the adopted College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics for Grades K-5 to meet the learning needs of students.
    • Collaborate with other WVDE offices to develop materials and provide professional learning for the West Virginia Tiered System of Support (WVTSS) and co-teaching instructional support.
    • Lead the ongoing review and development of the mathematics portion of the West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA), interim assessments and related materials for grades 3 – 8 and 11.
    • Provide professional learning support to Local Education Agencies for data analysis of WVGSA results.
    • Organize statewide or regional events related to professional learning of educators using multiple modes of delivery.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by WVDE administrators and leadership within the Office of PK-12 Academic Support.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master’s Degree in Education with a Teaching certification in Elementary Education. National Board Certification and/or administrative experience preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated expertise in the development of quality standards-focused instructional design that is rigorous and relevant and includes research-based instructional strategies necessary for students’ success in the classroom.
    • Demonstrated expertise in the integration of technology within the Mathematics classroom.
    • Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering professional learning that meets the needs of adult learners.
    • Superior communication skills, oral, written, and excellent presentation skills using current technologies.
    • Knowledge and experience in co-teaching and multi-tiered system of supports as related to improving results for students with disabilities.
    • Extensive experience using technology devices and applications such as telecommunications (webinar), computers, software (fiscal software, database, online and learning management software, personal productivity software, word processing software, etc.), mobile devices, etc.

    • The staff member understands that work assignments may change, or be added, as priorities emerge within the WVDE and/or the Office of PK-12 Academic Support.
    • The staff member demonstrates excellent financial planning and management skills and has the experience to prepare and manage a budget.
    • The staff member has successful prior and/or current employment as documented by references that identify satisfactory work habits, as well as the skills necessary to write and interpret state laws and policy governing educator preparation.

    EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP:
    Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is “at-will” and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation.

    The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding.
