The WV State Tax Department is seeking a Revenue Agent 1 for its regional office in Charleston, WV. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Pursue the collection of delinquent taxes owed to the State of West Virginia by communicating with taxpayers and/or their representative by phone and written correspondence. The goal of the position is to promote voluntary compliance with State tax laws and educate the taxpayers on the WV State Code.
- Communicate with taxpayers or their representatives and other government entities to provide information, resolve issues, and provide clarification regarding tax laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Investigate situations of potential non-compliance and complaints made to the agency about delinquent taxpayers.
- Review, verify, and issue compliance letters, non-filer letters, lien releases, and levies. Determine delinquent taxpayer liabilities and determine the appropriate action to resolve cases of delinquency.
- Negotiate with taxpayers payment plans that do not exceed 12 months in length. If the appropriate course of action to resolve a delinquency involves another course of action, bring such to the attention of the supervisor or upper management.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including six semester hours of accounting coursework.
- Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, credit collections, preparation of tax returns, or similar work.
Final candidates are subject to an extensive criminal background check and tax compliance check.

Pay: $13.96 - $22.76 per hour
