Position Summary:
The DFC Project Coordinator provides the day-to-day operational support to the DFC Coalition Chair and its members. Essential duties are detailed below.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide programmatic support in the implementation of the DFC Grant including coordination of media and youth council activities.
- Lead in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of school and community-based prevention programs, including providing technical assistance to the Coalition.
- Develop and implement youth programming as outlined in the 12-month action plan. Coordinate youth involvement in activities outlined in the plan.
- Participate in community advisory/planning boards. Attend meetings and serve on local committees for special projects as requested.
- Serve as a liaison between the Coalition and WestCare Georgia, Inc. on projects outlined in the 12-month action plan.
- Prepare monthly activity reports for the Program Director and provide needed documentation to show progress made on the DFC grant.
- Maintain competency of social networking mediums used to connect with teens (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr).
- Conduct a community needs assessment every two (2) years, under the guidance and direction of the Coalition and the Program Director.
- Work with the evaluation department to collect program data as needed.
- Exemplify prevention professional ethics to include role modeling healthy choices (i.e. non-smoker, responsible alcohol consumption and no use of illegal drugs).
- Implement resource development and public relation activities as outlined in the 12- month action plan (i.e. PR material development, fundraising and/or grant development, public service announcements, etc.).
- Develop and present workshops or trainings on DFC related topics as requested.
- Keep the Program Director, and the DFC Coalition, fully advised of DFC activities.
- Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with local agencies and referral sources.
- Represent the agency, as requested, at all meetings of funding agencies, governmental authorities, seminars, workshops, etc.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested by Program Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Certifications/Licensures:
- Certification as a Prevention Specialist is preferred.
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Health Services related discipline or related field is required.
Experience and Competencies:
- One (1) year of experience working with youth is required.
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion;
- Ability to work well in a team environment;
- Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality;
- Professional appearance and demeanor;
- Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served;
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required;
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in an office
- Some outdoor activities are required.

Physical Demands:
- Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through the use of approved physical de-escalation techniques.
- Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
- Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.
- The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.
Mental Demands:
- Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
- Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
- Requires the ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings.
- The ability to defend oneself and clients in mentally/verbally abusive situations through the use of approved mental/verbal de-escalation techniques.
