Job Posting for International Admissions Counselor at Western Carolina University

The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

1. Admissions
Serve as the primary liaison with University graduate school and undergraduate admissions office. Collect, review and process international undergraduate and graduate applications. Inform prospective students, families, internal and external offices regarding international admission requirements, academic programs, scholarships, and other international student related information. Inform admitted students regarding pre-arrival logistics, such as process for obtaining student visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, seeking housing on/off campus. Compile and update international admission data. Serve as a DSO and ARO to create and manage initial and continuing I-20s and DS-2019s.
2. International Student Recruitment
Develop and enhance promotion materials for international student recruitment, including but not limited to, promotional brochures, flyers, videos, photos, and other creative marketing materials. Serve as the secondary contact regarding international recruitment for, and cultivate productive relationship with, EducationUSA and other governmental or non-governmental international education organizations (e.g., IREX, etc.)
3. International Orientation
Plan and execute International Student Orientation each semester. Hire, supervise and evaluate Student Orientation Assistants, including arranging for international student arrivals and airport pickup.
4. Student and Campus Programming
Assist with major campus programming including International Education Week and International Festival, Going Global Living and Learning Community. Assist with international student programming.
5. International Student Support
Serve as primary contact with Student Accounts and Bursar to provide international student lists. Serve as primary contact with Residential Living and Health Services.
6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in any field
2. Ability to become a DSO and ARO, which requires a U.S. permanent resident or citizen status
3. Strong knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft programs
4. Knowledge of social media management and usage for professional purposes.
5. Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
6. Ability to communicate effectively and engage those from other cultural backgrounds.
7. Strong organizational and analytical skills
8. Flexible, creative, energetic and positive personality
9. Ability to set goals and to prioritize tasks
10. Demonstrated ability to work as a productive team member.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in any field.
2. Experience in working in a higher education setting.
3. Proficiency in a second language.
4. Experience in studying or working abroad.
