Job Description
We are currently looking for a hands-on Product Design Engineering Manager to oversee the complex workload of our talented product engineers and prototyping lab. A deep understanding of manufacturing and production processes is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels—from interdepartmental peers to leading company executives. As you effectively review engineering designs, you will coach staff to deliver production-ready designs and implement procedures and standards to ensure best practices and maintain cost-effectiveness. In addition to the daily tactical leadership of the design engineering team, you will work closely with Product Developers to plan and deliver products that are aligned with our business strategy for organic growth through new product development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage product engineering team through hands-on coaching and mentoring • Provide engineering expertise, planning and feedback for product development team • Ensure that engineering product designs support company goals of high quality, durability and cost-effectiveness
- Conceive and implement new engineering design processes and tools to provide continuous improvement
- Clearly articulate status and progress of projects to top-level company executives • Communicate design and performance expectations to Hong Kong office and overseas vendors to ensure successful production and manufacturing outcomes
- Lead the technology research activities that support market leading functionality in new product designs • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with multiple internal and external partners • Problem-solve inefficiencies in design and engineering processes • Provide detailed responses to product and technical requests
- Monitor engineering resource allocation to projects and assign engineers based upon skills and current project load.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (master’s degree a plus)
- 5-7 years minimum engineering experience • 2 years minimum management experience
- Experience in the conception and implementation of new processes to enhance and optimize the product engineering function
PREFERRED:
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing, production and materials (especially plastics—but also wood, metals and electronics) with an emphasis on Design for Manufacturing
- Good understanding of Quality process and integration of product and testing requirements into design
- Ability to juggle multiple simultaneous projects under tight deadlines
- Ability to provide course correction as needed
SKILLS:
- Good command of English
- Fluent in Solid Works (or equivalent engineering software)
- Great project management and leadership skills
