Job Title: Organics Analyst (Chromatography Scientist 2-4)
Reports to: Team Lead or Group Supervisor
Job Description:
Organics analysts perform a variety of laboratory procedures using established methods and techniques. Organics Analysts operate complex instrumentation and/or conducts complex experiments. Must be familiar and have experience with GC/MS, GC/FID, GC/ECD, TOC analysis, SPE and other extractions required for GC analysis. Analyst is responsible for recording observations and measurements and reports results. Analyst cleans, disinfects, and maintains laboratory workspace and equipment. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the laboratory and client services. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Some analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a requirement of this position. Must have some understanding of process and workflow. Manual dexterity required. Must be able to perform some repetitive tasks with accuracy and precision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience with LIMS an asset. Demonstrates upmost level of integrity in all instances and shows respect towards others and towards company principles. Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related field with experience as a GC analyst.
Performance Measures:
Prepare and analyze samples according to WETLAB SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies.
Performs and completes assigned task by due date.
Works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met.
Understands and applies basic analytical chemistry principles.
Makes standards and reagents as required and documents work appropriately.
Uses and updates LIMS to track and manage workload.
Applies technical judgment to determine potential problems for samples.
Calibrates instrumentation.
Processes and reports analytical results.
Updates and loads work into LIMS. Uses LIMS for appropriate background (historical) information.
Uses technical judgment to determine the appropriate analytical approach for various sample matrices.
Appropriately uses lab applications.
Tracks instrument quality control.
Keep a clean or orderly workspace.
