This position is responsible for maintaining a high level of inventory accuracy and integrity within packaging operations. This position works with the packaging/warehouse operations teams to facilitate the smooth transition of packed product. Responsible for identifying and tagging products for inventory and managing flow of product into storage. Strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions is required.
Responsibilities
- Deliver daily objectives determined by plant management.
- Read and interpret run sheets accurately.
- Count and tag orders as packed.
- Add identification labels
- Communicate change of products to Packers when orders are completed.
- Conducts all monitoring activities to assure finished goods comply with food safety and quality specifications:
- Monitors products and packages for quality control
- Identifies non-conforming product
- Operates various pieces of equipment (i.e. Pallet Wrapper, Forklift).
- Complete records/quality checks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Act on any deviations from Critical Control Limits, as required by company procedures.
- Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate manager/supervisor immediately.
- Become familiar with all machines in assigned area and share responsibilities for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, cleanliness, and escalation of assigned equipment.
- Report any food safety issues, plant security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior observed to manager/supervisor.
- Conducts operations in a manner that promotes safety and maintains security.
- Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Daily Routine List (DRL), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
- Responsible for housekeeping of the machinery and plant area (e.g., sweeping the floor, removing trash, cleaning the machine at the end of the shift, preparing for next shift’s production, and finalizing any paperwork in an accurate, clear, and concise manner).
- Maintain a food-safe sanitary environment at all times.
- Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (e.g., Labeling, Inventory Control, PM programs).
- Interact with warehouse team members, quality control, and other employees in the packaging department to maximize output and efficiency.
- Maintain standards as they apply to packaging equipment (e.g., quality, finished products, and machine operations).
- Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
- Available for overtime work on a scheduled or call-in basis, as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Forklift operating experience preferred, but not required.
- Picking/scanning and hand stacking experience a plus.
- Minimum two (2) years’ related experience in a manufacturing environment; increasing levels of responsibility preferred.
Skills
- Basic computer skills (touch screen).
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to perform counts using basic arithmetic skills.
- Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and as a team
- Proficient with scan gun.
- Communicates well verbally and in writing using the English language.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Physical Requirments
- Regularly required to walk, stand, push, and work long hours.
- Regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds; occasionally lift/move objects weighing greater than 75 pounds.
- Regularly climb ladders and occasionally work at heights of 100 feet.
Environment
- Regularly exposed to work near moving parts/equipment.
- Regularly exposed to major amounts of dust.
- Regularly exposed to a moderate to severe noise levels.
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor/uncontrolled weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
