Job Duties

*This position is eligible for a sign on bonus of up to $8,000. Must be new to state service in order to be eligible*

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Clinical Psychologist to evaluate individuals with serious mental disorders and provide or refer for needed services; collaborate with other disciples to maximize the quality of interdisciplinary care; participate in planning for an effective transition and continued recovery in a community care setting; participate in Departmental, Hospital, and state-wide committees and duties; and provide services at a system level (such as forensic evaluations).

The Clinical Psychologist will also prioritize need for and provide psychological services (assessments, therapy, etc); lead/co-lead at least six hours of PSR groups per week; conduct initial psychology assessment of patients admitted/transferred to assigned team; assess/make recommendations for patients who exceed behavioral criteria for complex cases; attend treatment planning and review meetings to provide input and recommendations from a psychological perspective; completes TPC and progress notes; and perform forensic evaluations in according with applicable legal and professional standards.

Western State Hospital is a 302-bed public psychiatric hospital for adults located in beautiful Staunton, Virginia. We serve an array of vulnerable patient populations with severe mental illness, including those who are justice-involved and those admitted involuntarily for emergency psychiatric care. We are a Joint Commission accredited facility. Our state-of-the-art facility opened in November 2013, and we have recently completed an expansion of the hospital to include two new patient care units. The successful candidate for this position will join 17 experienced and highly skilled licensed clinical psychologists. As a training site for many disciplines, opportunities are available to supervise clinical psychology graduate students, undergraduate psychology student, and other trainees. There are plentiful opportunities for continuing education in forensics and other areas relevant to the delivery of psychological services. Staunton is a vibrant town in the Shenandoah Valley within 45 minutes of multiple major universities. Minimum Qualifications

- Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology form a program accredited by the American Psychological Association
- License (or license-eligible) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia
- demonstrated experience in applying psychological assessment and intervention methods to individuals with serious mental disorders
- completion (or eligible to complete) the forensic evaluation training program in Virginia
- knowledge of serious mental disorders, psychological assessments, and therapeutic interventions
- ability to assess, formulate, and provide interventions for individuals with serious mental disorders
- ability to conduct individual and group psychotherapy
- ability to administer and interpret common psychological assessment measures
- consultation skills for the assessment, management, and treatment of individuals with serious mental disorders
- interpersonal, oral, and writing skills to communicate effectively with individuals with serious mental disorders, family members, and other individuals of varying backgrounds
- ability to collaborate with other disciplines to provide interdisciplinary care
